What is United’s Carry on Luggage Policy?

For worldwide travel, United has a carry on luggage policy that must be adhered to as a passenger. You may carry on one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, laptop computer, etc. To go along with this, each passenger is also allowed to carry on one bag.

Carry on bags must meet the following requirements:

1. Dimensions should not be more than 9 x 14 x 22 inches (length x width x height) or 45 linear inches.

2. A carry on bag must fit in the overhead storage or under your seat.

If a carry on cannot be safely stowed under your seat or in an overhead storage bin, United may require that the bag be checked in the belly of the plane. Additionally, the following items are exempt from the one piece limit restriction:

1. Outer garments including hats, jackets, etc.

2. Assistive devices including crutches, canes, and other similar items.

3. Child safety seat for any child with a ticket.

Although United has their own guidelines, passengers must also follow TSA restrictions. For instance, no more than 3 ounces of liquid or gels can be carried on. To go along with this, these items must fit in a sealable liter or quart sized bag.

Knowing United’s carry on luggage policy is important if you are going to be flying this airline in the near future.
