Romantic Destinations & Getaways in Orlando

Sure, Orlando is the home of the great mouse (or one of his homes) but Orlando and the surrounding area is not just for the kiddies, if you look carefully enough there are places for the adults to play as well.

The Courtyard at Lake Lucerne

Skip the big hotel chains and check yourselves into The Courtyard at Lake Lucerne, historic bed & breakfast surrounded by a lush garden setting. Remarkably, this hotel is situated in downtown Orlando, but you’ll feel like you’re miles away. Not your typical B&B, The Courtyard has accommodations for 30 in one of their four homes, each with a different attitude. Choose from quaint Victorian, corporate minded convenience, or romantic suites. Your stay at The Courtyard includes cocktail hour, a continental breakfast, and free parking. It’s a great retreat from the hubbub of tourism and actually feels as though you’re somewhere else or sometime else.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

If you’re stuck in Disney with the kids, then why not stay at the most romantic hotel on the grounds? Disney’s Wilderness Lodge takes great effort to seem like it’s not actually part of the hectic park activities by adopting the theme of a 1900’s National Park lodge in the Northwest of America. Nature and Native American culture meld together to create the feel of a lodge in the woods many years ago. The entrance is shockingly beautiful with its 7-story lobby and 82-foot tall fireplace. The pool is not just a pool with spring fed water that trickles down a creek and over a waterfall before hitting the pool. And in homage to Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge features Fire Rock Geyser which erupts on the hour with water pulsing 120 feet into the air. The Wilderness Lodge is a bit removed from the theme park and sits on the sandy shores of Bay Lake, making it the perfect getaway while still being on premises.

Villas of Grand Cypress

If you and your sweetheart love golf then you’ll love Villas of Grand Cypress in Orlando. This golf resort doesn’t just know its sport, but it understands romance as well. The luxurious rooms are spacious enough to give you room to move about and some even feature in-room fireplaces. The views are spectacular as they focus on the golf course, a Jack Nicklaus Signature designed 45 holes of incredible golf. On top of that, the Villas are close to all of the tourist activity in downtown Orlando so they’re romantic and convenient.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Couple’s Spa

For a romantic activity, try Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa where you can opt for a special Grand Romantic Couple’s Massage or the Couple’s Instructional Massage. Imagine being able to relax together and enjoy a romantic massage or learning how to give each other massages for future romance.

Lake Eola

Lake Eola is situated right downtown and is a great place to go for a stroll hand in hand or have a picnic on the shores of the lake. But the real romantics in the crowd can climb aboard a swan paddle boat and paddle around the little lake. In the evening look for one of the horse drawn carriages to take you on a tour of the downtown area.

Harry P. Leu Gardens

Roses are often used to signify love and romance and the Harry P. Leu Gardens are packed with roses in the largest formal rose garden in the state. The gardens are three miles of paved walkways for romantic strolls that wind through fifty acres of southern styled gardens. Also at the Harry P. Leu Gardens you’ll find a onsite house museum from the 1880’s, the largest camellia collection outside of California, a two acre tropical stream garden, vegetable and herb gardens, palm, bamboo and cycad gardens and a magnificent butterfly garden. Spend a day taking in the beauty of Mother Nature and enjoying the peaceful serenity with your loved one.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater

Is there anything more romantic than catching a live presentation of one of Shakespeare’s great plays? If you plan it right perhaps you can even see Romeo and Juliet. The Orlando Shakespeare Theater offers brilliant and faithful interpretations of some of the most famous plays the world over. It’s a wonderfully romantic way to spend an evening with your sweetheart and take in a classic night of theater.

Scenic Boat Tour

The Scenic Boat Tour is located on the Winter Park chain of lakes, only 10 minutes from Orlando. The tour is a special treat for first time visitors who have never experienced the incredible flora and fauna that the Orlando area has to offer. The 18 passenger pontoon boat can be rented for private tours if you plan far enough ahead. Imagine how your loved one’s heart will flutter as they realize you’ve arranged for a one hour narrated private boat tour on one of the most beautiful chain of lakes in the state of Florida.

Enzian Theater

Not your typical movie theater, Enzian Theater is more relaxed than your traditional mega complex theater, which is instantly obvious just from the front entrance, surrounded by weeping oaks. The highlight of the Enzian though is that you don’t need to settle for sodas and popcorn with an armrest between the two of you, instead you can cuddle up on a couch and nosh on homemade pizza, cheese and crackers and relax with a glass of wine. The wide selection of independent films also makes this night at the movies something very special and worth sharing with the person you love.

The Venetian Room

For romantic dining, The Venetian Room is a must for couples headed to Orlando. Located in the Caribe Royale Hotel, this restaurant’s décor is only surpassed by the exquisite cuisine. Diners are lit by the warm glow of the copper ceiling as rosy light flickers around the luxurious dining room, briefly touching the private alcoves where couples share intimate moments. On the menu is some of the freshest seafood Florida has to offer, a nice variety of delectable entrees and appetizers and an extensive list of reserve wines. The perfect way to celebrate with the love of your life.
