Must-See Attractions in Barcelona

Barcelona might be the country’s second city after capital Madrid, but it is definitely my favorite place to visit in Spain. It’s a vibrant city full of color and life and sometimes a little craziness – it is certainly never boring. Some of the highlights of Barcelona’s tourist attractions include:

  • A walk down Las Ramblas, the long pedestrian mall style strip running through the center of the city. It is easy to see street entertainers and there are often market stalls as well, plus there are plenty of restaurants and cafes along it when you need a break.
  • The architecture of Anton Gaudi: from the incredible (unfinished) cathedral La Sagrada Familia to the Park Guell, looking down over Barcelona, the unmistakably crazy designs of Gaudi are everywhere. Also look out for La Casa Batlo, La Pedrera and Casa Vicens, all buildings designed by Gaudi.
  • The Olympic stadium and other remnants from the Barcelona Olympics; speaking of sports, you can also visit the home of FC Barcelona or even catch a match if you’re in town at the right time and can find a ticket.
  • Walk along the beach from Barceloneta or just chill out on the sand or in the surf.
