Highlights of a Tokyo Trip

Any place you visit in Japan offers you a mix of traditional Japanese culture and modern hi-tech Japan, and the capital city of Tokyo offers perhaps the most interesting mix of all – plus even if you can’t speak Japanese, you’re bound to find locals who will bend over backwards to help you out and get you where you want to be. Highlights of a visit to Tokyo include:

  • Walking around the gardens of the Imperial Palace, the main residence of the Japanese emperor.
  • A visit to the Meiji Shrine, probably the most famous Shinto shrine in the whole of Japan, which Hillary Clinton visited recently as Secretary of State.
  • Going shopping or hit the nightlife in the modern districts of downtown Tokyo, including Shinjuku, Ginza and Shibuya.
  • Exploring the differences they’ve made at Tokyo Disneyland as well as riding everything at Tokyo Disney Sea.
  • Watching the enormous tuna being auctioned at the Tsukiji Fish Market.
  • Eating a wide range of typical Tokyo food, from sushi to monjayaki and an array of affordable but delicious meals, often based on noodles or rice.
  • Drinking with the locals or hitting a karaoke house where you can hire your own private singing room and order snacks through the TV set.
