What is American Airlines Carry on Luggage Policy?

Traveling on an American Airlines is easier when you know what to expect. And this is definitely true when it comes to the airline’s carry on luggage policy. You need to be aware of this policy before you head to the gate. If you are not, there is a good chance that you will end up having to check your bag when you arrive at the gate and find that it is too large or does not meet another regulation.

American permits each passenger to carry on one personal item and one bag. A personal item can be a purse, briefcase, computer case, etc.

One of the most important details of the policy is that the combined weight of the two items cannot exceed 40 pounds. Adding to this, your carry on bag cannot be any bigger than 45 inches, and your personal item no bigger than 36 inches. You can calculate the size of your bag by adding the length, width, and height. Additionally, your carry on items must fit either in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.

American has their own carry on policy, but you must also follow TSA regulations.

Being aware of American’s carry on luggage policy will make your trip much less stressful and more enjoyable.
