Lance Armstrong Foundation blog has announced the sweepstakes offering the unique chance to see Lance Armstrong race in the 2009 Tour de
France. The winner will receive round-trip coach airfare for two and a Paris vacation rental for one week (July 19 – 26). Winner will be announced on June 17, 2009.
Interesting facts about Lance Armstrong and Tour de France:
- Lance is the only individual to win the race seven times (the previous record was 5 wins);
- Armstrong has described himself as “the most tested athlete in the world” for continuous allegations of drug use;
- In 1996, 2 years prior to his first Tour de France win, at the age 25, Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer which had spread to his brain, abdomen and lungs. After the surgery doctors admitted that he had had less than a 50% chance to survive.
- Armstrong’s final tour was in 2005, that was also the year of his last win.
- During his first retirement, Lance focused on supporting people affected by cancer via his Lance Armstrong Foundation.
- On September 9, 2008 Lance Armstrong announced that he decided to return to professional cycling with the only goal of winning the 2009 Tour de France.
