While the struggling economy has slowed down many types of vacationers, this year’s spring break travel plans appear to be virtually uneffected. In fact, many spring break destinations are reporting more interest than usual.
Experts say the reasons are varied for why spring break travel remains strong in a weak economy. However, the relatively affordable spring break packages and the fact that many college students plan all year to save up the money are two common reasons. It also can’t be ignored that young people without a family or a mortgage to worry about are more apt to cut corners financially.
As for particular destinations, Mexico and Jamaica are two hot spots this year. In Mexico, Cancun is expected to draw the most spring breakers. Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta are also expected to be popular destinations in Mexico.
Spring breakers are also heading overseas in large numbers – specifically to Europe, Asia and Australia. Italy, France and Spain along with the United Kingdom are regarded as the top four European destinations.
Domestically, spring break seekers have a lot of choices. Many choose to go skiing in Colorado or New Mexico, however the state with the most spring break traffic will once again be Florida.
