Of course, the biggest news of the day is the Presidential Inauguration. The inaugural festivities officially start at 10:00am ET on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. After the music, the speeches, the swearing in and Barack Obama’s inaugural address, many more activities and celebrations surrounding the inauguration will take place later in the day.
Though most people aren’t lucky enough to have a ticket to one of the 10 official inaugural balls, there are many unofficial balls, parties and events, ranging from BET’s Inaugural Ball at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to the Inaugural Peace Ball at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.
If you are in the DC area today, forget about driving or taxis – it will be impossible. Walking, biking, bus or train are your best bet to get in, out and around. You can download a walking guide from the Metro website, which should help you get about the city.
