quick comment. the link to iBART is actually the wrong iBART. The real iBART is available at

the link in the article goes to a non-native (web based) BART trip planner, while the link above goes to the full-featured native one.

Thanks for the list! I will add that Urban Spoon is a free app and mainly useful in, well, urban areas. Urban Spoon also seems to assume that you want to jump in a car to get anywhere. Certainly consider Yelp or use your WIFI and become part of ChowHound or another foodie site if you’re not willing to just dive into a nearby restaurant!

Whoa — I knew there were a lot of apps out there for the iPhone, but most of them I hear about are mostly just fun and pretty useless. Great list! I’m totally getting Tripit and the Subway Guide. Thanks for compiling!

I would like to suggest one more app to the “where should we eat” list: “Local Picks” by TripAdvisor.

This app shows the restaurants closest to your location listed according to TripAdvisor’s popularity index (based on customer satisfaction). Each restaurant listing includes information about the establishment’s distance from your location and its rating, so you can filter restaurants by rating, radius and price.

Great article. I used to use the original version of taxi magic on my old blackberry, and I was pretty happy when I found out it had been ported to iphone. I wonder when they’ll implement the pay-from-phone and e-receipt features though. It’d make my iphone much easier to use in that regard
