Luggage

Packing for a trip can be an art form. Or at least a science. Learning to condense your belongings into one bag can make your life easier. Here are some tips.

Limit your choices to absolute essentials. List everything you’ll need on your trip and then start cutting nonessential items off the list. Keep in mind that airline security mandates new rules for carrying cosmetics and other toiletries in your carry on. Your hotel likely already has most of these items on hand.

Get the proper luggage. Shop around and find the bag that best suits your needs. Remember that lots of compartments and dividers can actually limit the available space. Also, you can’t cram as much into bags with curved edges and hard sides.

Learn how to pack. Rolling clothing will eliminate folds, but doesn’t help with wrinkling. Folding clothing creates more folds. Bundle wrapping (scroll down) clothes is a good way to keep them wrinkle free. Also, toiletries and other liquids can leak and ruin everything. Don’t bring full bottles, use non-breakable bottles and seal them in plastic bags.
