Planning your first trip to Paris can be an overwhelming chore. I should know as I’m in the midst of planning my first trip. As with any vacation, there are so many decisions to make. How long should you stay? When should you go? Where should you stay? And the list of decisions goes on and on… In the classic song “I love Paris in the springtime” all the singers are in agreement that the city is fabulous regardless of the time of year.
Even the gloom of the dreary winter months casts a romantic spell to the city. Determining where to stay is the hardest part, and many things should be factored into your decision. Staying in a central arrondissement is the key to making the most of your trip because it will save you time and the aggravation of figuring out a foreign public transit system. The 1st is in the center of it all, and a safe haven for tourists and contains the Louvre, Les Halles, and Palais Royale. The 7th and 8th are also popular choices because of the fantastic shopping on the world famous Champs Elysee and the Eiffel Tower in the 7th. When you travel domestically, it’s a common practice to book a hotel; however vacation apartment rentals are often times the better option for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it’s usually much cheaper than a nightly hotel rate. Secondly, an apartment would be more spacious than a hotel room. Another benefit is use of a kitchen, which will save you some cash on dining out. With the sad state of the US Dollar, every penny counts when you’re overseas! Stay tuned to additional planning tips in my subsequent blogs.
