Are you looking for the best business class service in the airline industry? Executive Travel magazine awarded United Airlines with its 2008 Leading Edge honor for Best Domestic Airlines of Business Class Service. This was mainly due to the airline’s outstanding services for international business travelers.

One of the main highlights of United Airlines’ new International Business Class is their lie-flat bed seats. Passengers can sleep on long, international flights to parts of Europe and Asia in fully-reclined bed seats. Some other airlines boast seats that lay back flat, but these are actually truly horizontal at 180 degrees. For business travelers going abroad, a good night’s sleep on the airplane can be essential.

Other United Airlines international amenities include menus with your choice of three entrees and a wide selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Additionally, you can also enjoy premium wine, desserts, fruits and cheeses, as well as traditional Japanese meals on United flights between the United States and Japan.

Individual entertainment systems offer nine video channels, 19 audio channels and noise-reduction headsets. You can learn more about United’s International Business Class as well as their p.s. Premium Service for flights between New York and Los Angeles or San Francisco on the United Airlines website.

What is United’s Carry on Luggage Policy?

Just Arrived

For worldwide travel, United has a carry on luggage policy that must be adhered to as a passenger. You may carry on one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, laptop computer, etc. To go along with this, each passenger is also allowed to carry on one bag.

Carry on bags must meet the following requirements:

1. Dimensions should not be more than 9 x 14 x 22 inches (length x width x height) or 45 linear inches.

2. A carry on bag must fit in the overhead storage or under your seat.

If a carry on cannot be safely stowed under your seat or in an overhead storage bin, United may require that the bag be checked in the belly of the plane. Additionally, the following items are exempt from the one piece limit restriction:

1. Outer garments including hats, jackets, etc.

2. Assistive devices including crutches, canes, and other similar items.

3. Child safety seat for any child with a ticket.

Although United has their own guidelines, passengers must also follow TSA restrictions. For instance, no more than 3 ounces of liquid or gels can be carried on. To go along with this, these items must fit in a sealable liter or quart sized bag.

Knowing United’s carry on luggage policy is important if you are going to be flying this airline in the near future.

What are United Luggage Policies?

DSCF3538

United recently updated their checked baggage policy. If you are going to be flying on this airline, it is important to be aware of these changes. While they will not affect every traveler, many will be faced with additional fees as well as restrictions on what can be checked.

First things first, you should know that traveling on an economy ticket will result in a service charge of $15 for the first checked bag. The second bag will cost $25.

Anybody flying United, with the exception of those in the frequent flier program, will be allowed to check one bag free of charge. A second bag is accompanied by a fee of $25.

Excess, overweight, or oversized baggage may incur additional fees. The oversize baggage fee is $125 per bag. For excess baggage, you will be charged up to $250 per bag depending on your flying status and the nature of your luggage. Overweight baggage, or the maximum weight per bag, is once again determined by your flying status. For instance, a mileage plus member is allowed to check a bag with a maximum of 50 pounds. For anything over this, a fee of $125 is assessed.

United recently implemented many of the details and fees associated with their luggage policy. For now, expect things to stay the same at United. If you are unsure of any detail, it would be in your best interest to call the airline before heading to the airport.

United Airlines Doubles Second Bag Fee to $50

United Airlines announced they are doubling their fee for a second checked bag. The new $50 one-way fee will apply to airline tickets bought beginning Tuesday, September 16 for travel beginning November 10. The airline cited fuel prices for the reason behind the increase.

The new fee will be applicable to flights within the United States, to or from Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgins Islands. More and more airlines are beginning to up fees for extra baggage, inflight services, ticket changes and more.

In recent months, we have seen United along with Delta, Continental, U.S. Airways, Northwest and several other smaller airlines start to charge coach passengers for a second checked bag. United, Continental, U.S. Airways and Northwest also charge $15 for the first checked bag. Delta does not. Additionally some carriers are charging $100 or more for a third checked bag.

United says that airline fuel prices are still more than 50 percent higher than 2007, despite the fact that oil prices have fallen in recent weeks. After reaching a high of $147 a barrel, the price of oil was $96 on Monday. Hopefully this decline will continue and soon be reflected in jet fuel prices.

United Baggage Restrictions, Luggage Charges and Carry on Luggage

United Airlines Boeing 777-222
If you are going to fly United, it is important that you are first aware of the baggage restrictions, luggage charges, and carry on policy. After all, one or all of these three details may pertain to you and the luggage that you need to take with you on your trip.

United does assess a special handling charge for some checked items due to fragility, size, or other specific requirements. Some equipment that may be charged an additional fee includes kennel, bicycle, scuba equipment, kayak, and surfboard. Of course, there are many other items that may fit into this category.

At this time, United, like many airlines, charge $25 to check a second piece of luggage. The only exception to this rule is if you are part of the United frequent flier program. Fortunately, they are still allowing each passenger to check one bag free of charge.

When traveling United, each passenger can carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse, laptop, or briefcase. That being said, the carry on bag must meet the following requirements:

1. Dimensions should not be more than 9 x 14 x 22 inches (length x width x height) or 45 linear inches.

2. A carry on bag must fit in the overhead storage or under your seat.

The above is a basic breakdown of United’s baggage restrictions, luggage charges, and carry on policy.

If you are flying United Airlines and need to check heavy baggage, there is a good chance that you are going to be charged an overweight fee. Of course, this depends mainly on the weight of the luggage you are checking and your flying status.
