Amsterdam is an amazing capital city in the Netherlands that people go to visit for a variety of different reasons. Many travelers go here to experience the permissive lifestyle of a city with a world-renowned Red Light District and a liberal stance on the use of recreational drugs. However, a majority of the people who travel to Amsterdam have other more educational plans in mind. They want to directly experience the rich history that this place holds. A beautiful destination, Amsterdam is also a place where many important things in Europe’s history are remembered in landmarks, historic sites and museums. (more…)

Philadelphia is a city which is rich with history but which is also on the cutting edge of the most modern trends in America today. Filled with landmarks dating back to the American Revolution and earlier, Philadelphia is certainly a place where you can go to see what America was like when it was young. And yet, it’s a city where there is a lot of industry coming in related to forward-moving fields like computers and medical technology so it appeals to a young, trendy crowd of people interested in arts and science. There are also a number of small niche museums that showcase the diversity of New York City.

Visiting the Louvre

You could spend a month in the Louvre and not even scratch the surface of the museum’s collection of 35,000 works of art. Most of us don’t have the time for that, so here’s how to get the most from your visit without getting overstimulated.

Buy a museum pass
With the museum pass, there’s no admission charge, no waiting in lines and no limit to the number of times you can visit more than 70 museums and monuments in Paris and the surrounding area. Consider making two shorter visits to the museum, say a couple of hours on day one and an hour or so on day two. The pass will allow you to split up your visits without paying twice.

Museums in Chicago

Chicago Field Museum
Interior of the Chicago Field Museum, the Tyrannosaurus Rex in the picture is the most complete T-rex skeleton ever found and is named Sue.

Chicago is known as The Windy City for a reason. It’s not always pleasant to be outside in Chicago but that doesn’t deter many people from visiting the area, even during the winter when the cold is harsh. If you find yourself spending a vacation in Chicago on a day that it’s just not nice to be outside, you might want to stop into one of the city’s many museums. Here, you can learn about Chicago while making new discoveries and you can find yourself a respite from the cold. Even if the weather happens to be nice, there is a lot to be seen inside of Chicago’s museums so you might want to put a few on your itinerary.

Harley-Davidson to open museum

Harley

If you hear the word “hog” and don’t automatically think of a farm and squealing pigs, then you’re probably long overdue for a trip to hog heaven. The Harley-Davidson headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has been home to the hearts of millions of motorcycle enthusiasts for decades but a new home will open this year.

Museum staff expect an annual attendance of 350,000 or more. The Milwaukee location, between Sixth and Canal Streets, easily houses the three-building, 130,000-square-foot homage to Harley. The development is planned with space for exhibits, a restaurant, café, retail space, meeting rooms, special events facilities and the company’s archives.

Future construction plans include an additional building with 100,000 square feet and office space for employees. Designs for this addition and a timeframe have not yet been made public.

Harley representatives haven’t released a grand opening date but the rumor mill predicts an opening by the 105th anniversary of Harley-Davidson in late August 2008.
