The Bahamas offer a fun, close-to-home, warm-weather destination, ideal for an affordable, easily accessible getaway. Your Bahamian adventure can be a look at island history, a shopping extravaganza, and a fisherman’s dream. The Bahamas, a collection of over 700 islands and cays, are located east of Florida and north of the Caribbean Sea. Though not technically part of the Caribbean Islands, the Bahamas often get grouped together with them because of their similarity in weather, culture, and topography. Notable past and present Bahamas residents include actor and writer Sir Sidney Poitier, singer/songwriter Lenny Kravitz, and supermodel Shakara Ledard. Read the full story

Family Restaurants in Orlando

Image

Orlando seems like it would be an easy place to find food for kids. After all, it’s where Disney World is located. And that’s true – there are many terrific restaurants all throughout the city that offer food for children. The problem is that most adults don’t want to eat at those places. It’s not that the food isn’t good; it’s that it’s not great. It’s made for kids, designed to be cheap and lacks the traditional taste that adults want when dining out.

While the stated goal of the 30-acre entertainment complex known as CityWalk is to entertain and educate patrons in a variety of themed environments, its real accomplishment is giving tourists a place to deposit their cash. Whether you’re a sport’s buff, a cigar aficionado, a fashionista or a conservationist; there’s a store for you.

  • Cigarz at CityWalk: Considered one of the best cigar shops around, locals flock to this hidden treasure. The humidor features a number of smoky gems and the bar features some stiff drinks and a few good eats for a light snack.
  • The Endangered Species Store: A tribute to the world’s endangered species, this store sells t-shirts, stuffed animals, knickknacks and other trinkets with critters in mind.
  • Fresh Produce: Not what you’d expect. This store offers clothing in the typical Florida fashion, bright florals and tropical colors.
  • Quiet Flight Surf Shop: If you really want to fit in with the natives at the beach, hit this favorite surf shop for everything you need to ride the waves; except the waves, of course.
  • Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company: Want a lasting souvenir? Try a tattoo. This world famous tattoo parlor is one of those places you just have to visit, whether you’re going to get ink or not, take a tour through the flash art and learn a little about this ancient art form.

  • Toy Story Mania: A 3D ride through all kinds of games - you can launch virtual darts, flying rings and eggs at the characters throughout the journey.
  • Jedi Training Academy: Take your kids to the Star Wars show and they might be picked from the audience for training on using a light saber and other secret Jedi techniques.
  • 2008 Block Party Bash: From Spring 2008, the street parade to be known as the Block Party Bash is touted as the most interactive parade Disney’s ever had, and will feature more than 20 famous characters.
