You won’t be lacking for things to do when you plan to spend a day (or more) at Universal City Walk in Orlando, Florida. This entertainment complex is filled with everything from souvenir shopping to well-known performances by theater stars like Blue Man Group. In the midst of all of this busy activity, you are going to find yourself getting hungry. Of course, since the place covers over 30 acres of space, there are plenty of restaurants to satisfy your cravings.
Here are the 10 restaurants to consider.
- Bob Marley Tribute to Freedom - You’ll find dining, drinking and dancing at this restaurant, which is set up to resemble the famous reggae musician’s home. The restaurant offers historical information about Marley’s life and the role his music played in our history. It also offers Jamaican cuisine and drink specials, but the experience is at least as important as the food.
- Bubba Gump Shrimp Company - Remember the scene in Forrest Gump where they list all of the different shrimp dishes that you could make? You’ll find them all–plus some other foods for the people in your group that aren’t interested in shrimp–here.
- City Jazz - As the name would suggest, you’ll find live jazz music playing at this restaurant. You’ll also find a full menu of your favorite foods.
- Emeril’s - You might not think of fine dining when you’re headed to Orlando, but that doesn’t mean it’s not available. If you’re hoping to locate a romantic restaurant with wine on the menu and a celebrity chef in the kitchen, look no further than Emeril’s.
- Hard Rock Cafe Orlando - You don’t need an introduction to the Hard Rock Cafe. You’ve probably visited one or two of them around the world before. But what you need to know about the one at City Walk is that it’s the biggest of all of them!
- Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville - You will go here for the drinks. With three different bars designed after bars mentioned in the singer’s drinking songs, you can help but want to imbibe some alcohol. But you’ll be happier if you also eat the Caribbean-inspired food that fills up the menu at this live music restaurants.
- Latin Quarter - Pretend that you’ve traveled to South America by exploring the tastes of over 20 Latin American nations at this restaurant. The style is a combination of Latin and Native American influences from decor to dessert.
- NBA City - If you think you know every basketball stat there is, challenge yourself with a trip to this educational spot. Or just got and watch the game on one of the big screen tv’s that you’ll find here. Burgers and buffalo wings will satisfy the appetite that you work up cheering for your favorite team.
- Pastamore - If you’ve got a big group, you need family-style dining. Order big plates of Italian food and set them in the middle of the table for everyone to share. Top it off with gelato that tastes like it came straight from Italy.
- Pat O’Brien’s - Do you wish that you’d gone to New Orleans instead of Orlando during your vacation? Go no further than this restaurant, which recreates the southern party city.

While the stated goal of the 30-acre entertainment complex known as CityWalk is to entertain and educate patrons in a variety of themed environments, its real accomplishment is giving tourists a place to deposit their cash. Whether you’re a sport’s buff, a cigar aficionado, a fashionista or a conservationist; there’s a store for you.
- Cigarz at CityWalk: Considered one of the best cigar shops around, locals flock to this hidden treasure. The humidor features a number of smoky gems and the bar features some stiff drinks and a few good eats for a light snack.
- The Endangered Species Store: A tribute to the world’s endangered species, this store sells t-shirts, stuffed animals, knickknacks and other trinkets with critters in mind.
- Fresh Produce: Not what you’d expect. This store offers clothing in the typical Florida fashion, bright florals and tropical colors.
- Quiet Flight Surf Shop: If you really want to fit in with the natives at the beach, hit this favorite surf shop for everything you need to ride the waves; except the waves, of course.
- Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company: Want a lasting souvenir? Try a tattoo. This world famous tattoo parlor is one of those places you just have to visit, whether you’re going to get ink or not, take a tour through the flash art and learn a little about this ancient art form.

If you hear the word “hog” and don’t automatically think of a farm and squealing pigs, then you’re probably long overdue for a trip to hog heaven. The Harley-Davidson headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has been home to the hearts of millions of motorcycle enthusiasts for decades but a new home will open this year.
Museum staff expect an annual attendance of 350,000 or more. The Milwaukee location, between Sixth and Canal Streets, easily houses the three-building, 130,000-square-foot homage to Harley. The development is planned with space for exhibits, a restaurant, café, retail space, meeting rooms, special events facilities and the company’s archives.
Future construction plans include an additional building with 100,000 square feet and office space for employees. Designs for this addition and a timeframe have not yet been made public.
Harley representatives haven’t released a grand opening date but the rumor mill predicts an opening by the 105th anniversary of Harley-Davidson in late August 2008.

Sure, San Juan is vibrant, with a nighlife that goes until the wee hours of the morning, but if you’re looking for Puerto Rico’s natural beauty without the crowds and the hubbub, look to the southern coast, to Porta Caribe.
Porta Caribe, located along the south central coast of Puerto Rico, includes the city of Ponce, the second largest city in Puerto Rico, as well as Guayanilla and Salinas. The pace is slower here, with miles of white sand beach and remnants of the island’s Spanish heritage.
Attractions
In addition to the myriad beach and water sports, there is the historic Catedral de Nuestro in downtown Ponce, the city’s renowned art museum, and some of the best restaurants in Puerto Rico.
Where to Stay
Porta Caribe has no shortage of luxury hotels. Among the best are:
- Hilton Ponce Golf & Casino Resort: This beachfront hotel, just outside of Ponce, has 253 rooms and suites. Facilities include a spa and sauna, a 27-hole golf course, a fitness center, and one of the largest casinos in Puerto Rico.
- Holiday Inn Ponce and Tropical Casino: Set atop a mountain with a sweeping view of the coastline and the city of Ponce, has a 24-hour casino, a spacious pool area, and 116 rooms.
- Parador Guanica 1929: Built in the 1920s, this charming Spanish-style inn, in the heart of Guanica, is surrounded by spacious verandahs. The 27 rooms are individually decorated and cozy–ideal for honeymooners and romantic weekends away.
How to Get There
Porta Caribe is easily accessible via flights to the San Juan and Ponce airports. Since Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S., United States citizens can travel to Puerto Rico without a passport; all you need is a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license.

Tucked into the base of the Great Smokey Mountains is Ghost Town in the Sky, one of North Carolina’s most popular tourist attractions.
The brainchild of R.B. Coburn, The Ghost Town in the Sky, opened to the public on May 1, 1961 and instantly became a million dollar idea. During its heyday a multitude of stars made appearances, but as the western slid out of favor so did the theme park. By the early 2000s the park was falling into disrepair and closed due to safety concerns. Luckily, it was purchased in 2006, millions were pumped into its refurbishing and The Ghost Town in the Sky is once again open to the public.
This family fun park is designed to appeal to every age group and features staged gun fights, live music and shows, thrilling rides and attractions. Once in the authentic western town you can visit the two saloons, schoolhouse, jail, or church. Dance hall girls perform for guests while gun fights blaze outside. And, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of the authentic Cherokee Indian dancers and musicians.
The newest addition to the park is Heritage Town Square where you can take a tour through 40 years of Ghost Town memorabilia, examine craftsman handiwork, and even try your hand at gold mining.

Art lovers visiting Paris always make a beeline for the Louvre, but I think the Musee d’Orsay is even better.
You’ll find the Musee d’Orsay along the River Seine, and while it lacks the Louvre’s controversial glass pyramid, I think it’s a much more beautiful setting . It’s housed in an old railway station. Not only is the building impressive from the outside, but the layout of the museum means there are some high vantage points inside where you can look down over much of the museum, and also be reminded of its beginnings as a train station.
The Musee d’Orsay’s collection is mainly French and includes terrific works by Monet and Renoir.
There are six main areas of the gallery, including painting, sculpture, photography, graphic arts, objets d’art and architecture. Some of the items were in fact moved here from the Louvre when the gallery opened in 1986.
Note that the Musee d’Orsay is closed on Mondays; on other days, it opens from 9.30am to 6pm, with a later opening until 9.45pm on Thursdays. It’s good value at just €7.50 per ticket for adults and free for under 18s.
