Patong Beach is a beach on the west coast of Phuket, as well as the name of the town adjoining the beach. The town is the main tourist resort of Phuket, containing much of Phuket’s nightlife and inexpensive shopping. Western tourists, especially Europeans, only began to flock to Phuket as a tourist destination in the 1980s, which means that the large hotels present in Patong Beach are mostly new.
