The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is the double-decked suspension bridge that connects the Staten Island and Brooklyn boroughs of New York City, named for Italian explorer Giovanni de Verrazzano. At the time of its completion in 1964, it was the largest suspension bridge in the world, only surpassed by the Humber Bridge in the UK in 1981. Its enormous towers can be seen from all five boroughs of New York City at certain spots and the bridge is still the longest suspension bridge in the United States.
