Vancouver Island is a large island in British Columbia, Canada, named after George Vancouver, a British Royal Navy officer who explored much of the area between 1791 and 1794. Most of the inhabitants of the island live in Greater Victoria, while other major cities include Nanaimo, Port Alberni, and Parksville. Tourism plays a major part in the island’s economy as many visitors come each year to the area to enjoy all it has to offer.
