The Unisphere, which is located in Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, New York City, stands 12 stories high as a stainless-steel representation of the Earth. Originally created to symbolize the beginning of the Space Age, the Unisphere was unveiled at the 1964/1965 New York World’s Fair. Landscape architect Gilbert D. Clarke designed the Unisphere, building it out of as much as 900,000 pounds of steel donated by the United States Steel Corporation.
