The Hagia Sophia, whose name translates to “Holy Wisdom,” was built as a Christian church, later transformed into a mosque, and today serves as a Museum. World famous for its unbelievable grandeur, the Hagia Sophia is considered to be the hallmark of Byzantine architecture and has been credited with changing architecture forever. For nearly 1,000 years, the Hagia Sophia was the largest cathedral in the world, only upstaged by the Seville Cathedral in 1520.
