Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and the second largest city in the country after Glasgow. The city became the capital of Scotland in 1437 and since then, Edinburgh has played an important part on the world stage throughout history, especially during the Enlightenment era. Although Edinburgh is a popular tourist spot in general, the Edinburgh Festival is known to attract as many visitors as there are residents.
