Astroland shut its doors on September 7, 2008, marking the end of more than 40 years of providing amusement for visitors to Coney Island. Although Astroland started as a space-age theme park in 1962, it became known for providing the traditional, retro carnival experience toward the end of its life. Dreamland Amusement Park replaced Astroland in 2009.
