Located in the Sunda Straight between the islands of Sumatra and Java, Krakatoa is a volcanic island. It last erupted in 1883. The eruption was one of the most violent and dramatic in recent history, causing the deaths of more than 35,000 people and the destruction of more than 160 towns. Tourists come to Krakatoa to experience the wonder and history of the volcano and the island.
