If you’re looking for a winter retreat that is one of the most happening hotspots in the country then Miami is definitely the city for you. Miami is always a trendy city where the rich, famous and incredibly fabulous escape for a vacation, but during the winter months it becomes one of the most popular destinations in the United States. If you’re headed to the Miami Beach area to enjoy the nightlife be sure you’re at your trendiest because this is really the city where people go to see and be seen.

Nikki Beach

Nikki Beach Miami

Nikki Beach Miami is exactly what it sounds like, one incredible club located right on the beach. With cabanas, sand, tropical drinks it’s what more club experiences in Miami should be like. The Nikki Beach Miami club is actually two different clubs, the beach one and the traditional club one, it’s the beach one you want. The best part is that this club is best enjoyed during the day, leaving your nights free for some more partying.

Tantra

Tantra is both a nightclub and a restaurant with an ancient Middle Eastern philosophy of appealing to six senses. The décor is obviously Middle Eastern with live grass floor and waterwall work to enhance the mood, but the food isn’t necessarily Middle Eastern. The food is called aphrodisiac cuisine and comes from noted aphrodisiacs from around the world. The entire place is dosed in sensuality and it’s a perfect experience for a couple.

jazid

Jazid

Jazid claims to be the longest running nightclub on Miami Beach after 11 years of live music every night of the week. The music is varied but typically has a funky soul that gets the crowd dancing and moving. Although the club has been a staple of the Miami scene for a long times it’s got a fresh new look. Recently renovated the club still retains its intimate feel.

Mansion

Mansion in Miami has been called Miami’s Hottest Club by People magazine and lives up to its reputation. This is the place where stars make a point to get noticed and the paparazzi sits waiting for their photo op. Mansion is one truly unique nightclub with a theme of being a residence, or a mansion, with sweeping staircases, ornate fireplaces, beautiful architectural and decorative elements, individual rooms and a club vibe throughout. Every young, beautiful 20 something should visit Mansion at least once in their lives.

Purdy Lounge

Purdy Lounge continues to earn rave reviews and climb lists of the best nightclubs in Miami. The reason for Purdy’s appeal is it’s so familiar and low key that it feels like hanging out in a friend’s basement or a college frat house. It’s not quite a dive bar but as welcoming and unpretentious as one.

Cameo

Cameo was once an Art Deco movie theater and now this historic building has a second chance at life with notable DJs, a growing list of celebrity spotting, a stunning light show, and performers in costume enticing the crowd. The main room is gigantic with 10,000 square feet and an oversized dance floor. There is a glass enclosed VIP room that is very secluded (it even has its own DJ) but the glass lets gawkers see who’s on the inside. Cameo is super chic and very impressive.

Club Space

Club Space is the place to be if you’re looking to dance your ass off. This club is consistently rated one of the top dance clubs in the United States and the notoriety is well earned. This bi-level, high energy club is loud, it’s crowded, it’s expensive, but it is really worth it. Explore every inch of the club, it’s always alive with energy and excitement and you never know who you’ll meet hiding in a secluded corner.

Score

Score is the biggest gay club in South Beach and has earned a reputation for being one of the best clubs around with its world renowned DJs, high on style décor, and an atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome. The club works to constantly stay on top of the trends in music, fashion, décor, drinks and entertainment. There are actually four different lounges located within Score, each with its own unique vibe and certainly one to fit your mood.

Twist

Another gay club with scads of raves on its resume is Twist. This South Beach hot spot has been a beacon to the gay community, drawing people in and making them feel at home. But beyond that, Twist is a hotbed of excitement and fun, the seven different rooms have such unique atmospheres that moving from one to another almost feels like bar hopping rather than being under the same roof.

Mokai

Mokai is an incredibly exclusive nightclub with an atmosphere that is meant to reflect the Mokai canyon in New Zealand. The trendy atmosphere was cutting edge and very intriguing when the club first opened, but as with all fad-centric businesses it’s lost its appeal a little bit. Mokai is currently a hit or miss club but if you can get there when it hits you’re in for a night to remember. The attitude isn’t as pretentious as one would expect given their exclusive claims, the music is typically on the good to excellent side and the dancing can get out of hand.

Nocturnal Nightclub

With three floors of thumping fun, Nocturnal Nightclub strives to be one of the most cutting edge clubs in the area. But constantly providing the best of everything they cater to a crowd that knows how to club and knows what’s the latest in club trends. Each room has its own atmosphere but is built with an open space that keeps the crowd flowing and it has a sense of one huge party. But what may possibly be the best feature of Nocturnal Nightclub is the Rooftop Terrace with a sophisticated ambiance and breathtaking views of the city and the ocean.

The saying is that everything is bigger in Texas certainly applies to the nightlife. The city of Dallas is just chock full of incredible nightclubs and the nightlife is just rocking.

Gilley’s Dallas

Gilley’s earned quite a reputation for its exciting atmosphere and top notch performers back in the 1980’s but they’re not done yet. Gilley’s is still rocking the night away with some of the best talent in the country music world. In addition to that the club knows how to keep its crowd happy and hopping with great music, good drink specials and a certain sort of Texas charm.

Cowboys Dance Hall

Cowboys Dance Hall is a lot of things all rolled into one. This country nightclub is a great place to have a few drinks with friends and hang out at the bar, maybe kick up your heels a bit, or you can go for some serious dancing and come for the free dance lessons, or come for a live music experience with a country band.

Lone Star Country Club

Lone Star Country Club lets you leave the country behind and experience something a bit edgier. With a focus on metal, alternative and rock music, Lone Star Country Club draws a youthful and raucous crowd. The live bands are some of the area’s best and the scene is the same. Check out the outdoor seating for a break from the crowds and ear splitting music.

The Barley House & East Side Grill

The Barley House & East Side Grill is a more laid back night scene in Dallas with great drink deals, good food for a bar, and comfortable friendly atmosphere. The Barley House is the perfect way to start a night or to wind one down with just the right mix of food, fun and drinks.

Club 2009

Club 2009 is a nightclub with the focus firmly pointed on dance. Just what you’d expect from a Latino discoteca with a spicy Spanish beat, the typical attention-hogs, some dance moves you’ll just have to try and a more than ample supply of alcohol. The club does allow guests who are between the ages of 18 and 21 but there is a minimum cover charge.

Lone Star Café and Club

Long Star Café and Club brings variety to the Dallas club scene with karaoke and touch of class shows on Tuesdays and Thursdays, live music on Fridays and Saturdays, a full menu kitchen, a large variety of games and drink specials to please everyone. It’s mainly a cover band bar so if you’re looking for old standards that you love and can dance to this is a great place to be.

Balcony Club

The Balcony Club is a great place for couples, especially if they love jazz. This live jazz nightclub sets an intimate atmosphere in the historic Lakewood Theatre. The crowd is diversified by age, race, economic status, education but it unified in its love of good jazz music.

House of Blues Dallas

The House of Blues Dallas is similar to the other chain clubs throughout the country and provides patrons with that expected level of quality, high caliber musicians, pricey but strong drinks and good times. What sets this House of Blues apart is its setting, the historic White Swan Building which once was the White Swan Coffee processing plant.

Adair’s Saloon

Adair’s Saloon opened in 1963 and has moved a few times and is under new ownership but still retains its old charm. It’s a college hang out where writing on the walls is expected and encouraged. Live bands and great bar food round out the menu and turn this local watering hole into one that is favored by local college students.

Club Dada

Club Dada is undergoing a facelift and promises to be everything it once was and more. With three different rock stages the club is determined to continue bringing in red hot national talent but is more dedicated than before to bringing local talent to the forefront. Club Dada promises to be open during the upgrade, as much as they can, so don’t let a little remodeling scare you away.

Zubar

Think young hip hop crowd and really loud cranking DJs and you’ve got Zubar. Zubar is one of the hottest clubs for the younger crowd. It’s always a frenetic den of activity with the hottest tunes, cold drinks, and enough people from the opposite sex to make your head spin.

Eight Lounge

Eight Lounge has recently reopened but is basically the same vibe, lots of loud music and great drink prices. It’s another nightclub geared to the younger set with drink specials, trendy music and DJs, and a contemporary feel. The special events and themed nights will be popular as will the upscale décor, but the crowd will probably be the same old thing, unless their VIP area can draw a new type of clientele.

Sons of Hermann Hall

The Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas was a lodge type establishment created in 1840 in New York City and is the oldest fraternal benefit society in the states. In its early years there were a few different halls in the Dallas area, by 1911 the halls combined into the one hall that still exists today. Sons of Hermann Hall is now a Texas historic landmark and proudly keeps its memorabilia on the grounds for those interested in seeing it. The club currently hosts a number of different theme nights each week that consistently draw a crowd. The music is not overwhelming, it centers on blues, swing, folk and country, music that is perfect to listen to and still carry on a conversation with your friends.

These are just a few of the happening nightclubs and nightlife hotspots in the Dallas area. There seem to be more every month and while new ones are cropping up it seems that many of them are fading off into the distance as well. The nightlife in Dallas tends to fall into two camps, the very young and the country crowd. There are some clubs that fall into other areas but they’re a little harder to find.

Chicago is a great city if you’re in the mood for some nightlife. The Windy City is full of incredible bars and nightclubs which can fit almost any type of partier.

Andy’s Jazz Club & Restaurant

Chicago is known for its jazz scene so if you’re in town then you’ve just got to stop at Andy’s Jazz Club & Restaurant to check out the local jazz scene. Andy’s Jazz Club & Restaurant is known as one of the best jazz clubs around with local performers packing the club every night, that is unless there’s a headliner coming to town. The variety of jazz ranges from traditional and swing to bop, fusion, Latin and afro-pop. Remember that Andy’s is one of the most popular places in town for Jazz so if you want to be sure to get a seat you should reserve one in advance, and then come early and enjoy dinner as well.

The Joynt

For a different take on the jazz scene in Chicago The Joynt gives you what they call a new paradigm for nightclub entertainment, and they might be right. The Joynt is two stories and four rooms and an outdoor café full of exciting entertainment Chicago style. The rooms are divided into The Grand Bar a chill hangout, The Swing Bar with live nightly entertainment featuring the Kendall Lewis Trio and other top local bands and ever so often a headliner, The Retro Club gets a little more action with dance mixes by DJ Carmine, and The Lounge where VIPs relax in a comfortable living room of their own, there’s even a private entrance for the elite. The Outdoor Café has cropped up for people who want to sit outside and enjoy the weather or take a break from the club, it also gives smokers a place to congregate as smoking indoors is no longer allowed in Chicago.

Metro

If jazz isn’t your thing but you’d still like to hear some live music then Metro’s rocking live music scene may be what you’re looking for. Metro has a unique talent for selecting live acts that are on the cusp of hitting the big time so you get to see the up and comers before they make it big. After the show you can head to their downstairs location, the Smart Bar (free admission with ticket stub) for an after concert party with more drinking, music, dancing and fun. If you’re lucky the stars of the show will head downstairs to take advantage of the vibe created by their energy.

Elbo Room

The Elbo Room actually rarely has any. This club jam packs the crowd in for incredible high energy live rock music shoes seven nights a week. The acts range from popular local groups to national acts that receive regular radio play. Although a diverse range of music is said to be the goal at the Elbo Room, you’ll pretty routinely hear rock and roll.

Transit Nightclub

For those who are looking to dance their asses off then Transit Nightclub is a trendy hotspot that’s sure to deliver. The club is actually an old warehouse tucked beneath the el train. The huge club is simple with a décor that focuses on geometric shapes and sparse furniture with postindustrial metal staircases. Follow the staircases upstairs at your own risk, at the top are exclusive VIP rooms. But if you’re there for the dancing then who wants to hang out in a VIP room. The dance floor is always rocking and shaking with a heavy bass beat spun by the best DJs in town. Be prepared, this old warehouse may not seem like the place to wear your best but that’s what is expected, the Transit Nightclub is a place where dressing to impress has its benefits.

The Funky Buddha Lounge

In the River North gallery district is a hidden little gem, The Funky Buddha Lounge. You know it’s hot and happening if the outside looks like a factory or a warehouse and even more excusive and trendy if it’s hard to find. The exterior of The Funky Buddha Lounge does not disappoint but the large Buddha sculpture on the door cues you in to what is happening inside. But be prepared the inside is likely to knock your socks off. The Funky Buddha Lounge takes everything thing that’s cliché and gauche about nightclubs and throws it all together, red lighting, black leather, faux fur, candles and hidden alcoves. The crowds at The Funky Buddha Lounge are quite different as the old weekday crowd likes things a little more mellow and traditional but Thursday nights has become something totally different, filled with youngsters barely of legal drinking age, and weekends are filled with those looking to create a visual stir with their outlandish style.

Martini Ranch

To wind down your night and have a late nightcap then the Martini Ranch has your name all over it. With a menu featuring more than 60 martinis there is a pretty good chance that you’ll find something that suits your deepest martini yen. But be warned, the martinis at the Martini Ranch are surprisingly strong, don’t be surprised if the punch hits you when you least expect it. One reason the Martini Ranch is the perfect place to wind down the evening is their hours, open until 4am every night except Saturday when the club doesn’t close until 5am. In addition, if you want to give yourself a good base to take care of that extra kick from the martini, the Martini Ranch serves traditional American tavern fare on their late night menu. For those who still want to dance, the Martini Ranch keeps music spinning through the night, creating quite a buzz of activity. And for the smokers in the crowd, the outdoor beer garden features heated tables for some quiet reflection on the night.

There are few cities in the world that are known for their happening hotspots and night time entertainment and Chicago is one of those cities. But remember, what’s happening one minute in a big city like Chicago may be old news by the time the lights go on and everyone heads home. Keep your ears to the pavement to hear what’s shaking the Windy City on your visit.

The ebb and flow of popularity in Atlantic city can be hard on the local economy as they seem to last a long time and there’s several years before a new wave washes ashore in this Jersey ocean side city, but the good news is Atlantic City is riding a current wave of popularity that is making it a happening hot spot once again.

If you’re looking for a great place to vacation that offers the fun and excitement of a Las Vegas style vacation and the relaxing ocean front frolicking of Florida then it’s Atlantic City all the way, baby. Nightclubs are king in this city and no vacation to Atlantic City is complete without spending at least one night carousing in one of these nightclubs.

Casbah

Voted the number one nightclub in Atlantic City (or maybe just dubbed that by the owner himself), Trump’s Casbah is a truly stunning club scene. Located in the world-famous Taj Mahal, Casbah is often one of the most happening hot spots in the city and can cram in more than 2000 people at once. Casbah is the one place in town where you’re almost guaranteed to rub elbows with a celebrity, the problem is, with a crowd this huge you’re most likely not to even notice. Casbah knows how to create the right mix of celebrity, thumping music and sex to come up with a winning combination.

Ego

Trump’s big Ego is on full display in the Taj Mahal’s gaming floor. Ego is one of the latest entrants into Atlantic City’s night life and it’s just a little different than the traditional club. A contemporary club with 11,000 square feet, 360 seats, 27 flat screened televisions, private cabanas and martinis to suit all tastes. There are two house bands, Elan and Dave Anthony & the Edge to provide guests with some entertainment. The most unique aspect of Ego and one that might soon be copied by other casinos, is that it is visible from the gaming floor and draws attention to itself rather than being hidden on a top floor or tucked into an alcove.

Mixx

The Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa brings a couple options to the table and they’re all pretty happening and popular, depending on what sort of crowd you’re looking for. The first Borgata entry is MIXX, which pushes the envelope of energy. Top DJs spin tunes for a crowd that just doesn’t seem to stop moving. Sign up for bottle service and you’ll get the VIP treatment all night long, a rare treat for some that may be worth the added expense.

Mur Mur

Borgata’s low key entrant in the nightclub game is Mur Mur, another retreat for the famous but that’s mainly because they can retreat to the darkened corners and fade from view. Mur Mur also offers bottle service for those wanting to play VIP for the night, but Mur Mur is one of the more expensive clubs in town so perhaps it’s not the place to try bottle service for the first time. But keep this in mind, it’s the prices that keep the atmosphere so relaxed.

Blue Martini

Blue Martini at Bally

Bally’s Blue Martini is a chic low key martini bar with more than 100 selections to keep you interested. The built-in frosted ice rail is ideal for chilling your drink while you check out the atmosphere. The live music prerequisite is fulfilled but three 60-inch plasma screens give you something to look at.

Bikini Beach Bar

Another Bally nightclub is the Bikini Beach Bar which takes advantage of their sandy location on the sea. This outdoor establishment is open only during the tourist season but since the dress code is basically swimwear this seems like more than perfect timing. The Bikini Beach Bar offers a lot of promotions and events so keep your eyes and ears pealed for free tickets or drink deals.

Providence

The Tropicana has found its own way into the nightclub scene with Providence, a New York City styled club and ultra lounge. Touting the New York City atmosphere is a little weird as the hotel prides itself on being Havana inspired, but whatever they are the vibe seems to be happening. Two DJ booths stationed across the dance floor create a back and forth high energy atmosphere that oozes excitement.

Tango’s Lounge

Tango’s Lounge in the Tropicana follows the Havana vibe more closely as its relaxed and laid back with a distinct island feel. This lounge is a nightclub in the old sense, not in the thumping new sense of the word. Sit back at Tango’s Lounge and enjoy live jazz, reggae, or salsa and sip tropical cocktails. This is a great off-season locale as it warms your soul on a cold winter day.

Club Worship

Club Worship at the Showboat

Club Worship is brought to you by Showboat & The House of Blues. This three story nightclub features dance floors, private booths, two bars, and intimate seating. A word to the wise though, the sub woofers on the first floor are ridiculous and they vibrate the entire floor and can cause some hearing damage, so stick to the upper two floors for a more enjoyable evening.

The Pool After Dark

Every teen has learned that there’s nothing quite like a pool after dark so Harrah’s decided to take it a step further with The Pool After Dark, a hip nightclub located around their pool. DJs keep the crowd moving and the energy flowing while drinks are liberally poured for guests. There’s just something about this outdoor party that makes it more friendly and fun than your traditional nightclub.

Dusk

Not opening until the summer of 2009, Dusk is highly anticipated but there isn’t much information on the amenities. All we know is it’s set to be a high energy club featuring hip hop, industrial, pop and top 40 music.

Atlantic City is on the move and gaining in popularity and as the casinos begin to realize their successes you can expect that the club scene will continue to keep changing as old clubs just don’t draw the crowds like new and trendy ones do. Keep your eyes peeled because what is new and happening this year is bound to be old news next year.

Baltimore’s nightlife is pretty varied and lends itself to virtually every tastes. There are great nightclubs for dancing to the latest thumping beats, comedy clubs to keep you laughing through the night, brew pubs for a relaxing night among friends, live music venues to hear your favorite local and national bands, and sports bars with an emphasis on the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles. If you don’t want to commit, skip from venue to venue and take in everything that Baltimore has to offer in its top bars and clubs.

One

Okay we just have to start the list with One because it’s quite possibly Baltimore’s most popular and happening nightclub. One is actually a very upscale nightclub and features four levels, each level is meant to represent one of the elements, Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. The vibe is hip and the décor is minimalist, it’s the perfect combination for a trendy club with room enough for everyone to get up and move.

Grand Central

Baltimore’s Grand Central is the city’s most popular gay and lesbian entertainment complex. But as with most gay clubs, they atmosphere is friendly and fun and straights are definitely welcome. For those who haven’t been to a full-on gay club before you’re bound to see something you’ve never seen before, including club sponsored events such as the wet lube wrestling, always a crowd pleaser. The music is hip and happening, the drinks are strong, and the upstairs lounge is a nice quiet place to escape the noise and relax among friends, or to make new ones.

Sonar

Sonar is the place to go if you’re looking for great live music. Three different rooms are available for live music acts so your chance of hitting some killer tunes is pretty good. Expect to find incredible local acts and well known national bands. The smaller stages host more intimate settings and the larger one is like a full on rock venue. When the DJ is in the house the concert space turns into a happening dance floor. The good news for some is that most concerts are open to all ages, but its best to check first just in case.

Iguana Cantina

Iguana Cantina is the closest thing to a spring break free for all in Baltimore. This huge open space offers great drink deals as their primary goal is to pack the club full of bouncing young bodies and then fill them with alcohol as they dance the night away. Except on Saturdays, when the club opens its doors to anyone over 18, just to give you younger set a chance to party too. If you’re young enough to still think spring break is a fun thing, then head to Iguana Cantina. You won’t be disappointed.

Ram’s Head Live

Another famous local nightclub with a headliner list you’re sure to know, Ram’s Head Live is a rocking venue for live music. In addition to providing you with a rocking good time, Ram’s Head Live actually has a wonderful storied history. The club dates back to the 1700’s and, although it was mainly a tavern, many businesses have resided in the location, one was a hotel with its own ghost, Amy. Amy still is said to haunt the establishment and if you ask the bartender he’ll show you where Amy’s bedpost resides today. What more could you want, great rock and roll, a historical building from the 1700’s and a ghost thrown in for fun.

The Brewer’s Art

Not a traditional nightclub and definitely not a bar with the frenetic energy of a DJ infused dance club, The Brewer’s Art is something totally different and worth visiting. The cuisine at The Brewer’s Art is absolutely incredible and will keep a smile on your face, but the home brewed beers, brewed on premises, will keep you smiling for hours to come. This upscale brew pub is a fantastic place to enjoy the local cuisine and ale and spend some quality time with your acquaintances.

Porter’s Pub and Grille

If it’s a sports bar you’re looking for then Porter’s Pub and Grille is a great choice as they’re not only known for their sports atmosphere, but they have a great deal on wine, there are 16 different reds and 16 different whites all for under $16. Porter’s features typical fare for a sports pub but comes with a little more history than a typical bar. Porter’s is named for Captain Porter who devised a way of letting the locals know if the ships coming in to the harbor carried friend or foe. The flags that signaled the townspeople hang in Porter’s now and offer a bit of unique atmosphere.

ESPN Zone

Sure ESPN Zone is a chain, but it’s a great kid friendly place to grab a drink and some food, watch your favorite sport’s team, and entertain the kids at the same time. This sports pub is actually considered one of the best local sports bars as its so sports focused and there are more than enough screens to keep you occupied.

The Horse You Came in on Saloon

With a cocky name you may get the wrong impression of The Horse You Came in on Saloon, but its nothing but friendly fun on the waterfront. This bar is a great place to relax and enjoy the view after a busy day of sight seeing in Baltimore. Be prepared, on weekdays the crowd is laid back and simply kicking back to chill, but on weekends the volume gets turned up as live bands are often featured and the Saloon knows how to get its clientele rocking.

Baltimore has a lot more to offer and its hard to sum up their happening nightlife in just one article. Each section of Baltimore features its own mood and atmosphere and the clubs seem to be keyholed into their particular region. As you learn more about what the city and its surrounding regions have to offer you’ll be better able to determine what hot spots suit your style.

In 1796 surveyors of the Connecticut Land Company laid out the area into townships and they named the capital Cleaveland (the spelling was later changed) and planned it to have an active downtown area. The center of that activity was Public Square. It wasn’t until the completion of the Erie Canal and the Ohio Canal that the city really began to pick up steam and draw more people to the area. As things progressed and time passed its no wonder that the city that was designed as a hub of activity grew into a great place for residents and tourists alike.

If you’re headed to Cleveland for a vacation you’ll be overwhelmed with how much there is to see and do, but don’t make the mistake of wearing yourself out during the day, save some energy so you can go out and experience the nightlife of Cleveland. The following list of nightclubs and bars in Cleveland will help you narrow down your list so you can target just the best ones.

Velvet Dog Nightclub

The Velvet Dog Nightclub in Cleveland is located in the Warehouse District and known as the areas premier dance club. This club takes advantage of their multilevel layout by creating three different atmospheres. The first floor is where the action happens featuring Top 40 dance sounds, and an upscale, thumping atmosphere. But it’s the third floor that’s proving a bigger draw as its small, laid back atmosphere is perfect for relaxing with friends and the outdoor rooftop patio offers some of the best views of the city. Male guests, make note to visit the restroom as the one-way mirror has a great view of the dance floor for a relatively private show.

D’Vine Wine Bar

For a totally different feel in the happening Warehouse District give D’Vine Wine Bar a try. Back in 1996 before the Warehouse District became the chic place for the trendy crowd to spend an evening, D’Vine opened its doors and began the craze. More than just a nightclub, D’Vine gives its clients a full menu late into the night and offers more than 60 wines by the glass, 16 different flights, and more than 150 wines by the bottle. This is the perfect place for a couple on vacation to kick back and relax and enjoy a flight of wine or an entire bottle and a great meal before heading out for a more wild night on the town or heading back to their hotel for their own sort of entertainment.

Metropolis Nightclub

Located on the West Bank, Metropolis Nightclub is a little bit like a secret hideaway that invites mysterious clientele. The interior is a series of dark corners and secret nooks with an air of gritty future underworld abound. This is a very popular club for the late night trendy crowd in the know so if you want to give it a little test, try going earlier in the night. If you want to get the full on experience then don’t even think about showing up before midnight.

Time Warp Bar

Time Warp Bar in Cleveland’s west side is an unexpected event mixed among the young downtown crowd. Time Warp is a little bit of everything for everyone and somehow seems to pull it off. There are comfy couches for those who wish to canoodle, there is a happening dance floor and kicking music (sometimes live) for those who want to get their groove on and there are televisions all over for watching the game or catching a movie. But be forewarned, don’t trust the clocks in the Time Warp, bring your own watch or you’ll get caught up in the whirlwind and never know when its time to leave.

Blind Pig

The Blind Pig is located in a historic landmark but this in no way influences the décor or the atmosphere of this loud, raucous bar. Weekends draw some of the best local bands around while a large part of the crowd is filled with Cleveland Browns fans as this is one of the closest bars to the stadium. It’s definitely a beer drinking crowd but it’s a friendly bar with lots of action.

Peabody’s Concert Club/Peabody’s Down Under

If you want more live music and want to be serious about it then Peabody’s Concert Club is a great stop. In fact Peabody’s has so much going on it feels like several stops in one. The main room is large with a lot of activity and this is where you’ll find the better known and sometimes national music acts. Tucked away is the Pirates Cove where a smaller stage draws its own crowd, or maybe it’s the adjoining outdoor patio that draws the crowd. Upstairs you’ll find a Rockstar bar which is usually featuring a local DJ but it’s the place to spot a few real rock stars in the crowd and who knows, they’ve been known to put on a show of their own. In addition, the Rockstar bar features “The Make out Room” for a little action on the side.

Winking Lizard Tavern

The Winking Lizard Tavern is typically a laid back lounge lizard sort of bar, that is until the game begins. This is THE place to go on game day as pregame and postgame crowds flock to the Winking Lizard for a few brews, some tasty appetizers and a rousing discussion of every aspect of the game. This is a non-smoking bar so it is family friendly if you’re looking for a quick snack pre or postgame.

The Grid-n-Orbit Nightclub

If it’s a gay nightclub you’re looking for then look no further because it doesn’t get any gayer than The Grid-n-Orbit Nightclub in Cleveland, and we mean that in the best way possible. This club is always happening and full of energy and fun. As is the case with many gay nighclubs, you’ll find the crowd more welcoming and energetic, the drinks more generous, the music more exciting and the night will be punctuated by a theme. At Grid-n-Orbit every night is a theme night so make sure to check the website so you’re properly attired and prepared for the night’s festivities.

First thoughts of Denver may have you picturing environmental sorts living the good life, only consuming healthy food and drink. But remember, the Mile High City has a long history of mining and drinking, which is good news if you’re looking for a little nightlife during your stay in Denver. There’s a long history of saloons and local brews in Denver so much so that the story is that the first building built in the city was a bar. One thing to keep in mind when looking for nightclubs and nightlife in Denver is there is no room for pretentious attitudes so dress comfortably, sit back, relax and enjoy the late hours while you’re visiting Denver.

Casino Night Heist

Far from your typical night on the town, Casino Night Heist is a truly unique and exciting experience that just must be tried. Housed in the Lumber Baron Inn guest come for an evening of dinner, drinks and faux-gambling while being entertained by a local improv group. Your night starts with real gaming but fake chips so you get the thrill of the game but don’t have to lose your hard earned cash. When dinner time arrives you’ll leave the casino and head up to the dining room and that’s where the heist begins. Each table is challenged to solve the crime with their table mates and the clues left behind. Not your typical night out but definitely something to remember.

15th Street Tavern

For a more traditional night on the town, 15th Street Tavern is a great alternative. This hopping nightclub packs in a local crowd during the day time and then turns up the volume and invites the trendsetters of Denver in to hear the latest and greatest local bands. It’s loud, raucous and exciting fun for locals and tourists. And don’t worry, you’re always welcome in Denver.

Falling Rock Tap House

If its beer you’re looking for then its beer you’ll get at Falling Rock Tap House. With one of the largest beer collections in the city with 69 beers on tap and loads more in the bottle. This is a great place to visit if you’re hoping to try a lot of Colorado’s craft brews without making a lot of stops then Falling Rock Tap House gives you all that and more. In addition to an excellent beer menu Falling Rock also serves food, it’s your traditional bar fare, but what else do you want after you’ve sampled four of five of the region’s best ales?

The Funky Buddha Lounge

I know we said Denver is without pretensions but if that’s what you’re looking for then The Funky Buddha Lounge is as close as it comes. With velvet ropes, trendy fashionistas, big priced drink menus, local artwork, and noted DJs this bar is the closest you’ll come to the hipster crowd of other big cities. Probably not a bar for tourists to spend every evening in, it’s still worth a stop if you love people watching and good dancing. A little preparation is necessary when going to The Funky Buddha, dress to impress or you wont get past the bouncer and bring wads of cash for high priced drinks and generous tipping.

Lucky Strike Lanes Bowling Alley in Denver

Lucky Strike Lanes

Yes, Lucky Strike Lanes is a bowling alley but it’s the hippest and most happening bowling alley around. This 1950’s retro club is so much more than your typical bowling crowd in fact it’s almost like a hip club with a bowling alley thrown in to up the ante on the fun quotient. The retro theme somehow makes bowling fun again as the focus is really on drinking and partying and letting loose in an old fashioned way.

Herb’s Hideout

On the flip side, Herb’s Hideout is one of those uber trendy little dive bars that has been drawing a crowd in Denver for years. This year Herb’s got new management and under the helm of jazz saxophonist Laura Newman the bar is taking what made it good before and making it great. Featuring local musicians almost every night of the week, Herb’s is now the place to go if you want to hear great local jazz, blues, R&B and funk. It’s even the place to go if you love that Big Band sound as the Denver Jazz Orchestra has a weekly engagement every Monday. Its one of those perfect combinations of bars that play to the crowd but don’t play so loud that you can’t hear your company.

Kazmo’s

Known as a dive bar, Kazmo’s is really so much more. Its one of those really fun bars that is always coming up with exciting ways to engage the nightly crowd. The music is loud and thumping, wet t-shirt contests are fairly common, and 8 ball tournaments are a crowd favorite. But one of the best aspects of Kazmo’s is that it opens at 7am on Sundays so if you’re not done partying on Saturday night, you can keep the insanity going. This is definitely a bar for a younger set and caters wonderfully to that sect.

LoDo’s Bar and Grill

If it’s a sports bar you’re looking for then LoDo’s Bar and Grill fits the bill. Located a stone’s throw from Coors Field, this Denver bar draws the true blue sports fans and keeps them there long after the game is over. In fact when a game is not in session patrons still enjoy the comfortable sports themed atmosphere and the great drink specials. The menu isn’t anything special but its better than most sports pubs. One of the highlights of LoDo’s is the rooftop patio which affords you a great view of the popular lower downtown area of Denver.

Whiskey Bar

If you’ve tried as many local beers as you can stand, how about taking a whiskey tour at the Whiskey Bar? A comfortable neighborhood bar whose claim to fame is the more than 75 different types of whiskey. It’s a relaxed attitude where the focus is on the company you keep and the liquor you drink. If you’re not a whiskey fan there are plenty of local brews to test and a complete bar to accommodate almost any drink request.

No matter what bar you decide to belly up to or what dance floor you grace with your presence, remember that Denver is called the Mile High City for a reason, its official elevation is a mile above sea level, meaning the atmosphere is thinner and if you’re not accustomed to this you may find that alcohol hits you a bit harder and the hangover can be brutal. Be careful when drinking and partying in Denver as altitude sickness can ruin the rest of your trip.

If you’re looking to cap off a day in Philadelphia with a great night out on the town then you’ve got some good and bad news coming. The good news is that you’re certain to find something that totally fits your mood and party attitude. The bad news you’ll find so many different clubs that it might be hard to say good night.

The city of brotherly love simply loves a good night on the town. Philadelphia is full of great nightclubs and an exciting nightlife so get ready to rev up and wind down in the late hours of Philly.

Johnny Brenda’s

Johnny Brenda’s is a great place to start your night on the town in Philadelphia as you get a little bit of everything packed into one place, restaurant, bar and music venue. Johnny Brenda’s was born in 1967 and named after its original owner, local boxing hero Jon Imbrenda, or as he was known in the ring, Johnny Brenda. The building retains its late 19th century charm, still feeling like an old burlesque club or theater. Check their calendar before heading to the club as they draw incredible local and national live acts.

Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus

If you want to hear jazz then you’ve got to go to Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus, the best jazz club in the city. Nestled into a corner of the newly hip Northern Liberties (NoLib) area, about a mile from Independence Hall, Ortlieb’s is not a high class establishment with the latest in décor but you’re there to hear jazz, right? So who cares? In addition to great jazz by up and comers and some legendary musicians, Ortlieb’s also serves up a pretty good menu. Chef Michael Suminski trained at the Four Seasons in Montecito, California before moving to Philly. Sticking to the original Cajun-American themed menu, look for cayenne flavored Louisiana crab bisque, blackened catfish fingers, golden friend calamari, and some amazing crab cakes.

Silk City

With a 1950’s look and a modern feel it’s easy to see why Silk City is attractive to visitors, in fact it’s so attractive that it was featured on an episode of the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives in 2008. This revamped dining car has gone through a few different crowds through the years and its current fan set includes a slew of scantily clad 20-somethings. Silk City is one of the hottest, happening spots around, at least right now.

Bob and Barbara’s Lounge

Bob and Barbara’s Lounge is a must see nightclub location if you’re looking for something out of the norm or your night on the town in Philly. Bob and Barbara’s is rip roaring fun for everyone with bingo games that provide porn to winners and losers walk away with a can of meat. Not into bingo, how about a good alcohol fueled spelling bee, ping pong tournament, or a rousing game of rock-paper-scissors? If you’re not really interested in participating then the weekly drag show is probably just your cup of tea.

Fluid Nightclub

Moving away from the dive bar night scene, Fluid Nightclub is a hip and happening club full of the glitz, glamour and slamming base you’d expect. A clubbers paradise, Fluid considers itself part of the underground music scene and holds to type with a dark and intimate atmosphere infused with local and international DJs playing new electronica, funk, house, soul, trip hop, trance, progressive, jungle, break beat, hip hop, punk rock and, of course, rock n roll. Get ready to dance because it’s basically required at Fluid.

Transit Club

Go to Transit Club dressed to be seen because this is the place for a glamorous night out on the town in Philadelphia. This tri-level club once housed the PNC Bank which means the bank vault is still onsite, but now serves as a billiards room. The mezzanine is where the beautiful (and wealthy) people hang, as the VIP rooms give them a great view of the dancing action below. If you’re ready to break the bank, go ahead and rent a VIP room for the night and put on the airs of someone famous. While the vault and the mezzanine at Transit attract a crowd it’s the dance floor that is the main star, with hundreds of young bodies writhing and DJ spun club mix thumping its an energy oasis.

Shampoo

Another NoLib club, Shampoo is an exciting stop for those who just want to dance all night long. Rooms in the club have themes and the 80’s themed room is a crowd pleasing favorite but the Goth room is sure to bring out a few people that make the experience something to talk about. Weekends at Shampoo are reserved for theme nights to enhance the fun so look for a luau, foam party, or other fun with a twist.

The Khyber

If you’re headed to the Old City section of Philly then The Khyber should be on your list of places to stop, especially if you like beer. Khyber is known for their huge variety of beers and the Sunday $10 all you can drink open bar specials, but be prepared, its sometimes difficult to get up to the bar to get a drink through the crowds. The upstairs bar is always free but the downstairs area usually has a cover, but with good reason. Downstairs The Khyber draws some great local bands and once in a while a well-known national act hits the stage.

This list doesn’t even scratch the surface of great nightclubs and incredible nightlife in Philadelphia, there’s still Lounge 125, 700, Woody’s Bar & Nightclub, Brasil’s, Ulana’s, Pure, 105 Social, 12th Air Command, Bamboo Lounge, Club Flow, Club Risqué, Club Wizards, Dirty Franks, FridaySaturdaySunday, Locust Bar, Show & Tel, Tattooed Mom and The Cave just to name a few. Seriously, this list doesn’t even begin to tell you the story of how many happening nighttime hot spots there are in the Philadelphia region. A trip to Philly just isn’t complete without at least one really late night full of dancing, drinking and partying. When it comes to Philly there just aren’t enough hours in the night.

Las Vegas no longer means just gambling the night away, now you can really get your groove on in this happening city. Las Vegas simply isn’t what it used to be, buffets are expensive, hotels are pricey and have much more than just one-armed bandits, and a chic young crowd has taken over and no night on the town is complete without spending some time ripping it up on the dance floor.

Jet Nightclub at the Mirage

Huge to say the least, Jet Nightclub at the Mirage’s 15,000 square foot club features three rooms, each with its own unique feel and sound. In the main room you’ll find today’s most popular music including hip hop, rock and pop. If you’re a DJ fan then head to the room featuring guest and international DJs who spin their own sounds. And if you’re a little bit retro then there is a room for you which focuses on an eclectic mix of dance hits from current to the ’80s. The décor throughout Jet is ultra modern and sleek with self proclaimed attention paid to every detail. Guests may not notice every detail but they’ll certainly take note of the state-of-the-art cryogenic effects systems, the one-of-a-kind light and laser grid and the best sound design technology available. In addition to three areas for dancing, there are four full service bars and European bottle service, if you wish, is available in each room.

Pure at Caesars Palace

Pure at Caesars Palace is owned by sports stars Shaquille O’Neal, Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf and singing sensation Celine Dion. This two-story, 36,000 square foot club also features three distinctly different rooms, although the sound is not how each room is delineated. All rooms have DJ accompaniment and are actually more segregated by the crowd in attendance. The main room is for everyone with three bars, a dance floor and beds abound. The second room, or the Red Room, is for VIPs only and is a more cozy, intimate affair. Take the staircase or glass elevator to the terrace and you’ll find a dance floor and private cabanas for small parties. If you like to party outside, then this 14,000 square foot fits the bill as the largest outdoor, year-round venue in Las Vegas and the views are amazing.

TAO Nightclub, Asian Bistro and TAO Beach

Originally a happening Asian bistro in New York, TAO moved to Las Vegas and brought the party with them. Housed in the Venetian Hotel, TAO still is a super delicious Asian bistro but now it’s also so much more. Draped in velvet and silk, TAO attempts to disguise its famous clientele with soft Asian lighting, decor and a 16 foot tall Buddha, but fails to keep the attention off of itself. Noted as one of the most popular nightclubs in the area, TAO Nightclub features one hopping dance floor with a steady DJ beat of house music, hip hop, and R&B. for a break from the action, head out to the terrace or one of the multiple bars for a refreshment.

Tryst at Wynn Las Vegas

The waterfall at Tryst at Wynn Las Vegas is so stunning you really won’t believe it until you see it, and it’s a great excuse to visit the club as this is a must-see attraction. But don’t be mislead to believe that this 94-foot waterfall is all that Tryst has to offer. This 12,000 square foot club is completely unbelievable with an indoor/outdoor dance floor that protrudes 15 feet into a man-made lagoon in the middle of the desert. Grassy lounge areas and private nooks make this oasis in the desert more intimate than one would imagine and after spending a long time waiting in line for entrance into this club you’ll be happy to sit back and soak in the atmosphere. Tryst is a place where all are welcome (as long as you fulfill the dress code) so the elite may be hard to find if you’re looking for fame and fortune.

Studio 54 at the MGM Grand

What was may never be again, but Las Vegas’s own, unique twist on the famed Studio 54 is sure a hit in its own right. Studio 54 at the MGM Grand takes advantage of the multiple level trend that has hit dance clubs in bigger cities in the last few years and MGM takes it up a notch with four levels of beautiful people dancing and grooving the night away. Each level has its own dance floor and fully stocked bars with an ever changing array of music from classic disco to modern hip hop. The atmosphere is trendy warehouse and the decorative focus is clearly the crowd of wanna be celebrities with a few actual persons of note. Keep your eyes peeled and you may notice the moon that hung over the door of the original Studio 54.

Rain in the Desert at Palms

Another theme you’ll find in Las Vegas is water, too many businesses try to prove that they have conquered the arid oasis with scads of water, Rain in the Desert at Palms evokes this concept and then adds to it with more special effects than one can imagine. Entrance is granted (after a terribly long wait in line) over one of the two drawbridges and you’re greeted inside by a pulsing sky which follows the beat of the music. Pay attention or you’re bound to be startled by the first of many pyrotechnics displays. The fire and water display is completed by a dance floor ringed by water with fountains continually splashing. The 25,000 club somehow feels small, maybe it’s the layout, or perhaps it’s the crowds, but getting some breathing space may be difficult, try another level for some elbow room. Celebs and VIPs at Rain don’t pay cover charges or wait in line so it’s not uncommon to see them brush by you as you wait for entrance.

Cherry Nightclub at Red Rock Casino & Spa

If the hustle and bustle of the super large, super trendy clubs has you a bit beat and tired at just the thought, Cherry Nightclub at Red Rock Casino & Spa is a great way to spend the evening. Cherry is still pretty popular and trendy, but its 8,500 square foot dome of red leather and polished chrome is more cozy and the outdoor pool area is even more relaxed with a private deck, separate bar, cabanas and lounge chairs. If you still want to give those dance moves a try, head onto the dance floor and attempt to match the shakes and swivels of the strategically placed go-go girls as they shimmy to the sound of the beat.

Like most of Vegas lately, everything keeps changing and the pace at which it changes is shockingly rapid. The clubs which are hot today may not be tomorrow, so keep your ear to the rumor mill and check where the day’s most popular stars have been spotted.

Maybe you’ve already been to all the big parties in the US. Or maybe you just want to see how your neighbors in the Global Village celebrate. But in case you were wondering, there’s a whole world of parties out there.

Carnival- Rio de Janeiro

Although Carnival is celebrated in towns and villages throughout Brazil and other Catholic countries, Rio de Janeiro has long been regarded as the Carnival Capital of the World. Foreign visitors to it alone number around 500,000 every year.

Rio Carnival is a wild four-day celebration held 40 days before Easter. It officially starts on Saturday and finishes on Fat Tuesday with the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, after which one is supposed to abstain from all bodily pleasures. Carnival’s excesses are a farewell to the pleasures of the flesh. Carnival generally occurs in February, the hottest month in the Southern Hemisphere, when the Rio summer is at its peak.

It begins with the crowning of the Fat King, who is presented with a giant silver and gold key by the city’s mayor. Then Carnival explodes in the streets and squares, bars, clubs and all other venues, taking over the whole city. The climax of the grand revel is the Carnival Parade also known as the Samba Parade. In between the crowning of the king and the parade there are balls at the Copacabana Palace, parties on the beach and street carnivals.

The parade is put together by Rio’s Samba schools, social clubs who start planning the festivities a year and a month before the parade. The schools choose a theme for their displays and create a pageant incorporating songs, dances, floats and costumes into the production. In December, the schools record and release their Carnival songs.

Then the school’s samba song of the year is selected while the school’s designer gets to work on the costumes and the floats. By December, rehearsals begin and, in time for Christmas, the various schools’ annual samba songs are recorded and released.

The parade used to be held on Rio’s streets, but it now has a dedicated venue, the Sambodromo–the stadium of samba. A giant concrete structure that seats 90,000 and was especially built for the parade, it features a runway that paraders march down with grandstand seats and luxury boxes on either side.

Fiesta de San Fermin – Pamplona, Spain

You don’t have to go running with the bulls if you attend the Festa de San Fermin; the bulls are just part of this eight-day bacchanalia held every year from July 6-14.

Festivities begin with the Txupinazo, on July 6 when a rocket is set off in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, and the chant “Pamploneses, Viva San Fermín, Gora San Fermin!” signals the start of the celebrations, From then on it’s no-holds-barred partying.

Much like Rio’s Carnival, the eight-day fiesta is organized by peñas, or party clubs. The peñas open up their doors along Pamplona’s Jarauta Street, in the heart of the old quarter, to visitors wanting food and drink. At the bullfights each afternoon, peña members sit under their own banner and wear the distinctive dress of the club. And all during the festival, each peña has a brass band that circulates throughout the day and night.

The Encierro, or running of the bulls, takes place at 8 am every day of the feast when the bulls to be used in that afternoon’s bullfight are run to the bull ring. The run began as part of the process of moving bulls from the edge of town to the bullring. At some point during the mid 1800s, people began to join the herd on their journey. Then Hemingway wrote about it. Now everyone does it.

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan, Thailand

Not an annual, but a monthly affair, the Full Moon Party at Koh Phangan has been described as the biggest beach party on the planet, attended by 7,000 to 10,000. The party begins on Haad Rin beach at dusk and lasts the whole night as scores of international DJs play everything from reggae to drum‘n’bass.

Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts – Glastonbury, UK

The world’s largest performing arts festival draws more than 175,000 a year to the legendary home of King Arthur for more than 700 acts on 80 stages. Visitors crowd to the mystical “Vale of Avalon” around summer solstice time for the music as much as the parties. Amy Winehouse, Bjork, Shirley Bassey, David Bowie, Oasis and Al Greene have all played here at one time or another. Headliners next year are Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and he Verve.

Hong Kong Rugby Sevens – Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s biggest sporting event is also an excuse for the city’s biggest party, a rollicking weekend that can no longer be held within the confines of Hong Kong Stadium.

The idea for the came about when Ian Gow, a tobacco executive asked Tokkie Smith, the president of the Hong Kong Rugby football union, about sponsoring an international rugby tournament. Smith suggested that a ‘sevens’ game would be more feasible than a game with 15 players.

And so it was that teams from Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific competed in the first rugby sevens tournament sponsored by Rothman’s tobacco and Cathay Pacific.

Sevens is a speeded up version of traditional rugby with fewer rules. The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens is the main event in a larger Sevens tournament that tours the world, with the ultimate champions decided on points earned from all of the tournaments.

Today people fly in from all over the globe to attend. Party Central is the South Stand, where hordes of rugby fans dress up, dance, throw empty beer jugs and occasionally streak across the pitch. But since not everyone can get tickets to the tourney–the stadium only seats 40,000–pubs, bars and restaurants offer special Hong Kong Rugby Sevens deals to party goers.

New Years Eve Reykjavík

Almost everyone in Reykjavik is armed with some sort of pyrotechnic to help ring in the New Year thanks to liberal laws that allow people of all ages to buy unlimited amounts of fireworks in the days leading up to December 31.

The night begins at one of many bonfires lit up throughout the city Trolls, fairies and elves are said to join revellers around the fires where folk songs are sung and candles are waved prior to the midnight firework displays. The dancing and partying lasts until sunrise.

Oktoberfest Munich

It’s the biggest public festival in the world, it’s two weeks long and it’s a celebration of beer.

Oktoberfest begins with the grand entry of the brewers and their families who arrive in decorated carriages and the traditional horse-drawn drays of the breweries accompanied by barmaids on decorated floats and the beer tent bands. During the next 16 days, the festival’s 14 beer tents offer food, shows, live music and specially brewed beers.

It’s a massive undertaking. At this year’s recently concluded festivities, 6.6 million people consumed about 12 million pints of beer, which washed down about 280,000 sausages.

This establishment is cozier and more laid back than many others. Is this a bad thing? Of course not. You may not find a wild time at Risque, but it is safe to say that you will have tons of fun nonetheless. This club is always packed, and the drinks flow like water. Does it get any better than that?

There are a few places in the world that draw the nighttime crowds that Los Angeles does. It’s the variety of people and clubs that brings out the most interesting people. From local blue collar workers looking to relax after a hard days work, to A-list celebrities looking to be seen, or to those looking to see, L.A. has it all.

And as one would expect, a city like Los Angeles has a ton of super hip and happening clubs that are all the rage, for a minute or so. The popularity of clubs waxes and wanes just as quickly as Hollywood’s latest starlet begins to fade into a distant memory. So use the following nightclub and nightlife guide as a general guide, but be prepared to find that the club of the moment has once again gone the way of the dinosaur and it may be another month or two before it once again becomes the happening hot spot where people wait in line for admittance.

If you’re a visitor to L.A. and took a flight in, you may want to avoid the upscale dance club and lounge, Airliner. Its aeronautical theme brings out the jet set and the banging dance floor keeps them up and moving. The plush lounge lets you relax in comfort that just can’t be found in first class. Expect to hear some of the best local DJs and on some nights you’ll even be treated to live music. As with most of the uber trendy nightclubs, Airliner has a dress code and wont let you in if you’re slumming it in a baseball hat or sneakers, but you’ll probably want to get even more dressed up as this is one place to go star gazing.

One club that has actually stood the test of time is Arena. This ginormous warehouse style club has been around for decades and its key to survival is its flexibility. Everyone can find a night that suits their personal style. The two upstairs rooms feature a hip-hop and a salsa club while the main floor has theme nights throughout the week. Thursdays are dubbed HEAT and special guests make appearances while the crowd gets some give-aways. Fridays are Hollywood Live where gogo girls parade about doing what gogo girls do. Saturdays is Boy’s Night with drag queen Brenda’s Show. Sunday is a very unique night where a strict dress code is enforced, Its Noche de Bandas nights where no sneakers and caps are allowed but total cowboy get up is encouraged. Families are welcome as long as an adult is present.

Saints and Sinners is a different type of nightclub, it’s for the serious cocktail lover as opposed to the dancing queens and Hollywood hopefuls. This bar is an excellent spot for the post work crowd looking to unwind in an incredibly tacky atmosphere. With a circular fireplace as the focal point and a buttoned-vinyl ceiling this place screams 70’s chic and caters to those who respect the laid back glam of yesteryear, it’s also popular with those who enjoy a stiff drink.

Waitress serving drinks

If you’re more interested in star gazing than anything else, then The Kids Cotton Club is the current hot spot, one so hot in fact that Lindsay Lohan was denied access. A throw back to the 1920’s jazz scene in New York, The Kids Cotton Club looks to have the finest jazz, rhythm and blues and rock music every Sunday. As noted, not everyone gets in the door so make sure you’re dressed in your Sunday best. Men are required to wear ties and women will feel most comfortable in a dress. But once in the doors you’re bound to enjoy the experience.

For a very unique experience consider boarding the Queen Mary and heading to Vamp the Lounge. It’s a dance club with great drinks and a burlesque show. That’s right, a burlesque show. Something totally unusual and really spectacular when you realize you’re aboard the Queen Mary. In fact you can spend an entire evening touring the Queen Mary and drinking all the way. The Observation Bar offers incredible sunset views and many fine spirits as well as some amazing artwork. While Tibbies Cabaret lets you dine and delight in their Broadway-cabaret style show. For real fine dining, Sir Winston’s Restaurant serves up delectable delights and superb service. Semi-formal attire is required and you’ll be glad you’ve made reservations. And for those who stay past the sunset and have a few drinks in them, perhaps a ghost sighting will be the highlight of the evening as the Queen Mary is reportedly a ghostly hotspot.

For another all-in-one nightclub experience, try The Kress. This venue stretches up five stories and boasts more than 38,800 square feet. The restaurant features Executive Chef Troy N. Thompson, known worldwide for his culinary creations. While the basement lounge bounces with liver entertainment and a dance floor, the third floor is a banquet hall that can accommodate almost anything, and the rooftop is decorated with cabanas and a striking 360 degree view of all of Los Angeles. The truly impressive aspect of The Kress is its willingness to pay homage to its history in a time when most people want to tear down the past and rebuild a character-less modern structure. The Kress was originally S.H. Kress & Co., a traditional American dime-store. The building has been completely renovated and once again features the original art deco style of the 1930’s along with an original marble staircase, brass railing and the ornate Italian designed ceiling and façade. After the Kress store faded into history, Frederick’s of Hollywood took over the venue, The Kress also pays homage to Frederick’s by having their signature designed uniforms on the establishment’s dancers and cocktail waitresses.

Remember as you plan your evening schedule for Los Angeles, what’s in one minute may be out by the time your cab reaches the front door. Pay attention to tabloids if you truly want to be seen and see the A-list celebs. If that’s not important, then go for a venue that suits your needs, personality and your goals for the evening. Whatever it is you want, L.A. is bound to have it.

San Francisco is full of culture and diversity of styles. It’s nightlife reflects those differences making it an ideal destination for either enjoying an evening full of familiarity or one in which you search out a new adventure. Hip-hop, clubs, electronic music, artsy lounges, elegant nightclubs and so much more can be found every night of the week in San Francisco.

Ruby Skye, located in Union Square on Mason Street, is famous for its top DJ lineup. The building was once the historic Stagecoach Theater. This high style club hosts bands, fashion shows, dance nights, hangouts and private events. There are two levels with four rooms and some private rooms that bring in celebrities to enjoy the evening without a lot of notoriety. Yet, Ruby Skye has become one of the most notable nightclubs in San Francisco.

Red Devil Lounge is another of San Francisco’s hot lounges housed in an original historic theater. Bands from around the world have performed in this convenient location on downtown’s Polk Street, near great restaurants and hotels which cover any level of luxury desired. Live music, genre varying from night to night. Pick your floor and enjoy the night.

Hemlock Tavern is a golden find for hipsters looking for the unknown yet next up and coming band. If you’ve never heard of the Shipper Kids or the high class garage band, Flakes, then you haven’t been to Hemlock’s lately. They also have some great “free” DJ nights including a Sunday night country show. There’s never a dull moment with every night exciting and full of fun.

111 Minna Street Galery is your place if you’re into spending the evening at a fine disco emporium with some of the best electronic music around. Choose between a shaken Martini or Cosmo while you enjoy the unique and beautiful works by artists such as Captain and Commander, Keli Reule and Henry Lewis.

Rockit Room

Rockit Room is an all rock bar and the place to go to see the latest new rock bands perform. Head up stairs where their excellent sound system blasts out the nightly rocker’s music. Downstairs it feels like the corner pub with pool tables, flat screen TV, foosball and jukebox. There is a cover charge on the upstairs level, but downstairs is always free entrance. It’s located in the Richmond District on Clements Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. photo credit: b_d_solis

Marsh’s Mock Cafe will fill your night with laughs. The hottest comics in the city come here to listen to the audience’s laughter. Robin Williams and Will Franken have even dropped by. On off hours Marsh’s offers youth theater classes for ages 4 to 15 including dance, music, stagecraft and theater – later providing theater for the public.

The Albion is rundown and dark at first look, but then you notice the fun the night crowd brings to the place. Is it because it’s been around forever, a total comfort bar or is it the many pool tables that spar good clean games that bring them night after night.

Doctor Bombay, yes it’s named after Dr. Bombay of TV’s original Bewitched. It’s located right across the street from Roxie (old-time movie theater) on 16th Street. They play great music all night long in this mellow hang out. Their backroom’s filled with the usual pinball and pool tables.

The Kilowatt offers live music but with a low cover charge. It’s located on 16th and Valencia in an old firehouse. Instead of dogs being excluded from this nightclub, they are encouraged – what fun for pet lovers. If you’re so inclined sign up for their Hump Day Pool Tournament for the last Wednesday of the month. It’s just a $3.00 entrance fee and it includes a complimentary drink. First game starts at 7:30 PM sharp.

Jack’s Elixir has an Irish pub atmosphere and offers sixty different beers. It’s one of the oldest existing saloons in San Francisco, restored to it’s original look. Visit the original mahogany bar and fancy the roughriders that used to grace it’s presence in the wild west days. Order a pint and ask the historically knowledgeable bartender anything that comes to mind.

Vesuvio Café-Bar has an old-time atmosphere with a twinge of the ’60s thrown in. It’s a romantic little place right next to a great bookstore, City Lights Books, where you can have a coffee or a drink. It’s quite a change from the loud nightclubs you might find elsewhere in the city. They tout themselves as an historical monument to “jazz poetry, art and the good life of the Beat Generation.”

Savoy Tivoli is a great night spot with a European atmosphere. You’ll find a busy bar full of locals and newbies alike. It’s located in the North Beach area on Grant Avenue. It boasts a history back to 1906 and still has that old time feel to it. It has a huge covered patio, four pool tables and an occasional visit from an Elvis impersonator.

Cancun is considered to be one of the hottest spots in the world for an active nightlife experience. Travelers from throughout the world (and particularly college students from the United States) flock to Cancun specifically to party in the nightclubs that are located throughout this beach destination. There are huge dance clubs here with multiple bars and dance floors that can accommodate thousands of people but there are also smaller bars here where visitors can enjoy a drink and strike up a conversation with others traveling in the area. Whatever your nightlife style, Cancun has something that will suit it.

Basics Of Cancun Nightlife

The main thing that you should know about Cancun nightlife is that it’s busy, busy, busy. The clubs are active all throughout the year. Many of the clubs don’t close until the dawn breaks in the morning so you can expect to have something to do all night long if you so desire. A majority of the nightlife options in Cancun take place in what is called the Hotel Zone so it’s easy to stumble back to your lodging after a night out at the clubs. What’s not so easy is trying to sleep with all of this fun activity around you all of the time!

The nightlife in Cancun is primarily geared towards a college-aged partying crowd. Cancun is specifically known as a Spring Break partying destination for wild Americans on college vacation. However, there are various types of clubs in Cancun and bars to suit everyone’s styles so you don’t necessarily have to be young and wild to love the nightlife here. It just helps a little bit!

Big Nightclubs in Cancun

The main type of nightlife that the majority of visitors to Cancun are going to be seeking is the nightclubs that are located here. These are huge dance clubs that frequently have multiple bars and more than one dance floor. These nightclubs are the places that are packed and that keep the party going all throughout the night. They are also the nightclubs which are going to offer the most wild partying. There are often live performance artists on site and events like bikini contests held at these clubs. Here are some of the most well known nightclubs in Cancun that people are probably going to be most interested in checking out:

Bulldog. This is one of the most popular large nightclubs in Cancun. This is due in large part to the fact that this is not just a standard dance club but also a live music venue which has been known to host performance from major international rock stars. The live music is supplemented by an amazing sound system, lighting effects and other big concert features which makes people hanging out at this club feel as though they are attending an amazing concert no matter who it is that is headlining the event. For those people who enjoy live music dance clubs, this is considered to be the best nightlife choice anywhere in Cancun. It also has the features that are desired in any big Cancun nightclub like a Jacuzzi area filled with attractive people and a once-weekly bikini contest.

Coco Bongo. This Cancun nightclub offers a mixture of live music performance and DJ performances to offer some of the best dancing in the entire city. This is one of the most well-known nightclubs so it’s a really popular spot with American tourists particularly college students who are visiting Cancun on Spring Break vacations. It hums with activity all throughout the summer and continues to be active throughout the rest of the year as well. It’s hard not to find something to like at this nightclub if you’re the kind of person who likes all-night dancing and lots of crowded, wild activity.

Dady O. This Cancun nightclub aims to offer many different features that are appealing to the senses. They have spared no expense when creating the sound system and the lighting and other special effects for this club. People who enjoy the clubs of Las Vegas in the United States are likely to be comfortable at this massive dance club because of the similarity of this club in size and features to the big, popular clubs of Las Vegas.

Dady Rock. There are two floors to this bar and across those floors are five different bars, live music and DJs. However, the reason that people really like this Cancun nightlife hotspot is because this is the one that is best known for having the hottest contests in the city. People who really like the Wet Body and Bikini contests that are famous throughout Cancun are going to find that they are satisfied y what’s to be found at this location.

The City. There are three floors of nightclub fun at this amazing dance club and it’s able to accommodate the dancing and wildness of up to four thousand people at once. What’s really great here, though, is that this nightclub has a beach area for dancing where there is a dance party thrown during the daytime hours so you can get started early or continue on throughout the day in addition to your nighttime dancing.

Smaller Bars in Cancun

Not every nightlife hot spot in Cancun is a huge dance club where you have to get down and dirty to have a good time. There are also many smaller bars that are popular in Cancun. In fact, some of the most famous nightlife hot spots that people go to check out during their stay in Cancun are actually just smaller bars and even restaurant-based bars. Here are some of the ones that you’ll probably want to experience if you’re vacationing in Cancun:

Carlos N Charlie’s. This is a Mexican restaurant that doubles as a bar and it’s one of the most popular bars in Cancun. It’s been around and filled with tourists for nearly thirty years so it’s definitely not going anywhere anytime soon. You’ll be enjoying modern nightlife fun as well as some history of Cancun nightlife when you spend time doing drinking at this bar.

Corona Bar. This is a great walk-up bar on the beach which allows you to enjoy an active bar scene out in the open air without ever having to pay a cover charge to be there. This is a great place because the party never seems to stop so it feels as though you’re in a club but you’re really just at an outdoor bar.

Senor Frogs. This is another of the Cancun bars that seems like it’s been around forever and so it has become practically a tourist destination for people who are coming to visit Cancun. It’s a great place to start out your night’s drinking, experience Cancun nightlife and even grab a bite to eat. It’s not your typical restaurant but it’s got great food and a terrific atmosphere.

Cancun Nightlife Summary

There are a lot of different things to do on a Cancun vacation but there’s a good chance that any traveler headed to this area is going to be highly interested in the nightlife options that are available here. Luckily, there are a lot of them. You can spend all night dancing in the big clubs. You can spend a few hours in the evening drinking at one of the most popular bars. Or you can enjoy some combination of both major nightlife options during an extended stay in Cancun.

If you’re looking to visit the Bahamas and really experience the culture, you’ll want to attend a Junkanoo. A Junkanoo is a Bahamian traditional parade that celebrates the country’s culture and art with colorful costumes, rhythmic dancing and cowbells, drums and whistles accompanying.

The parade occurs on December 26th, Boxing Day, and on New Year’s Day. The most popular parade is held on Nassau Island but others also occur on Grand Bahama Island, Eleuthera/Harbour Island, Bimini, and The Abacos.

If you can’t arrange a trip during the winter holiday season then shoot for the Junkanoo Summer Festival which runs from early June through late July. This festival occurs on the above names islands as well and features the incredible parade as well as some additional cultural activities.

Although the parade is similar to Mardi Gras its origin is unknown. Some people believe the name Junkanoo is from the French term gens inconnus, which loosely translates to the unknown people and refers to wearing costumes. Others believe the term comes from John Canoe, an African tribal chief who demanded the right to celebrate with his people even after they were enslaved in the West Indies.

It is known that the Junkanoo tradition has a West Indies history and Bermuda and Jamaica have similar practices.

During the 16th and 17th century Bahamian slaves were given some time off around Christmas and they celebrated with dance, music, and costumes. The costumes were an integral part as they allowed participants to parade around anonymously.

As the atmosphere of the Junkanoo evolved so too did the costumes. Initially celebrants wore grotesque masks and walked around on stilts, both disguising their appearance and height. Throughout the years the grotesque nature evolved and the celebration embraced nature, making costumes out of sea sponges and leaves. It further evolved to fabric and shredded paper.

Not surprisingly, after slavery was abolished in the West Indies the Junkanoo almost disappeared, as the participants no longer felt the need to wear disguises to celebrate. For a while very few islanders kept the tradition alive, but now it’s flourishing as a cultural celebration and a tourist attraction. Current parade-goers wear elaborate costumes made mainly of crepe paper on wooden or cardboard frames. They can spend an entire year working on an elaborate costume, designed to portray exactly the right theme. Each theme is a closely guarded secret and isn’t revealed until the parade. Having just the right costume is all worth it because if it is selected by the judges it earns a place of honor in the Junkanoo Museum.

A visit to the Bahamas is just another trip to an island without some sort of Junkanoo experience and insight into the history and culture of the Bahamian natives.
