Sure, Orlando’s major theme parks are fun, but when in Central Florida, make sure to allow time to visit some of the lesser-known attractions in the area, such as Gatorland. This 110-acre wildlife preserve is located midway between Orlando and Kissimmee and features thousands of alligators and crocodiles as well as other animal and plant species.

Opened in 1949, the park, known as the “Alligator Capital of the World,” is still privately owned. The park features an aviary, live animal shows, a petting zoo, and a waterpark in addition to the various animal exhibits.

Gatorland is open daily from 9am to 4pm. Daily admission tickets are $19.95 for adults and $14.95 for children. Discounted tickets are available for sale via Gatorland’s Web site.
