As a passenger on an Alaska Airlines flight it is important to be aware of baggage restrictions, luggage charges, and carry on luggage policies. These details will determine how you pack for your trip, and what you do when you arrive at the airport.

Alaska Airlines is one of the only airlines that allow passengers to check their first bag free of charge. More and more airlines are charging for every checked bag, but Alaska Airlines is fighting the temptation of following suit. That being said, they do charge for additional baggage. The second checked bag is $25, and each bag over this will be assessed a fee of $100 each.

Alaska Airlines also charges for oversize and overweight baggage. A bag is considered oversize if bigger than 62 linear inches and overweight if heavier than 50 pounds.

Alaska Airlines allows each passenger to carry on one bag as well as one personal item. A carry on bag can measure up to 10″ H x 17″ W x 24″ L. A personal item can be classified as a purse, laptop computer, or briefcase. At least one item, either your carry on bag or personal item, should be placed in front of the seat in front of you.

It is important to keep these basic restrictions, policies, and fees in mind if you are going to be flying on an Alaska Airlines flight in the near future.
