Texans love their sports. Whether it’s football, basketball, hockey, or baseball, there’s sure to be a large crowd cheering on the home team. Are you new to the area or planning a visit? Here’s a run-down on the Houston teams and where they play:

Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park - The Astros, Houston’s Major League Baseball team, are part of the National League’s Central Division. Although they’ve never won the World Series, they won the NL pennant in 2005. The Astros play at Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field), located in downtown Houston. The 40,950-seat stadium opened in 2000 and features a retractable roof, air-conditioning (when the roof is closed), and free WiFi throughout.

Houston Rockets at Toyota Center - The Houston Rockets are currently Houston’s most successful franchise. They hold record for the longest winning streak in the NBA and they’ve won the NBA Championship twice (in 1994 and 1995). The team has also been conference champs four times and division champs four times. The Rockets play at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston. The arena, opened in 2003, seats 18,300 for basketball.

Houston Aeros at Toyota Center - The Rockets are the only team to play at the Toyota Center. Houston’s AHL hockey team, the Aeros also use the arena, which seats 17,800 for hockey.

Houston Texans at the Reliant Stadium - Houston’s professional football team is the Houston Texans. They replaced the Oilers who moved to Tennessee in 1997 and became the Titans in 1999. The Texans were formed in 2002 as part of the AFC South division. They have yet to win a division title. The Texans play at Reliant Stadium on Houston’s south side, the first stadium to have natural grass and a retractable dome.
