Phoenix, Arizona is blessed with sunny weather, a casual lifestyle, and a plethora of things to do and see. Whether you’re just visiting the city for a few days or are a life-long resident, there’s always something new to experience. Below are just a few Phoenix sightseeing ideas:
Heard Museum - Located in downtown Phoenix, the Heard Museum is the most important collection of Native American art and artifacts in the United States. The museum houses more than 32,000 objects, including the popular display of Barry Goldwater’s collection of Kachina dolls.
Desert Botanical Garden - Founded in 1939, this 140-acre garden in the Papago Park neighborhood of Phoenix is home to more than 21,000 plants, including more than 100 rare and endangered specimens. Highlights include the garden’s collection of cacti and agave plants.
Camelback Mountain - You can’t go far in Phoenix without seeing Camelback Mountain, the distinctive backdrop to most city vistas. The upper elevations of the 2074-foot high mountain are a city park, filled with hiking and biking trails.
Scottsdale Art District - Scottsdale, located just outside of Phoenix, is home to more than 100 art galleries, offering everything from silver and turquoise jewelry to wood carvings to watercolors. Each Thursday from 7pm to 9pm, the district hosts an art walk, with refreshments, live music, and lots of art viewing.
Phoenix Zoo - Founded in 1962 by the Maytag family, the Phoenix Zoo is the largest non-profit zoo in the United States. It’s located on 125 acres in the Papago Park neighborhood of Phoenix and features more than 1200 animals in natural settings, such as an African Savannah, a tropical rain forest and, of course, the Arizona desert.
