It’s not too late to make plans to go South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin Texas, but you better hurry. SXSW, founded in 1987, is an annual music and film festival, one of the largest and most-anticipated in the United States. Austin, well-known as home to a diverse mixture of music artists as well as the Texas Music Hall of Fame. Each March over 1400 musicians entertain a crowd of over 100,000 visitors at the Austin Convention Center and venues throughout the city. The 2008 dates are March 7-16.
The Music
A varied array of artists from all over the world are scheduled to perform at the 2008 SXSW. There are rap artists, blues musicians, rock and rollers, and more. For a complete list, visit the event’s Web site.
The Films
Film is another integral part of SXSW. Dozens of independent films are being screened at the festival, many of them world premieres. A complete list of films and times may be found on the festival’s Web site.
Making Plans
If you are thinking of attending the 2008 SXSW, it’s wise to secure your accommodations as soon as possible. The festival maintains an inventory of available area hotels. A few are still open. Registration for the event (which allows unlimited access to all or part of the festival) ranges from $300 to $1050 per person.
