Lake Eola

Sure, Orlando has the Disney theme parks and Universal Studios and a dozen or so lesser theme parks, but the city also has a surprising number of things to do without spending a dime.

  • Morse Museum of American Art - One doesn’t usually equate Orlando with art museums, but the city boasts an example facility in the Morse Museum of American Art. Among other things, the museum is home to the world’s largest collection of early 20th century glass art by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Admission is free to all on Fridays from 4pm to 8pm.
  • Lake Eola - Located in the heart of Orlando, this 23-acre park is a relaxing oasis in the midst of the city. The park is known for its fountain in the middle of the lake and its many events, including the city’s 4th of July fireworks display. There’s also a band shell, a children’s playground, and live swans.
  • Celebration - Celebration is the town that Disney created. It might seem a little too perfect to some, with a bizarre Stepford-Wife-type feel, but there’s no denying that the homes and gardens in this town of 2700 residents are showplaces and interesting to look at. Celebration, located adjacent to the Walt Disney World parks, hosts a number of free festivals throughout the year, or just stroll along the town’s well-manicured paths.
