One of the most famous art galleries in the world is New York’s MOMA, the Museum of Modern Art. Centrally located on 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth, you’re bound to pass by it on your way around the city. And it’d be criminal not to stop in to explore the art inside.
The permanent collection at MOMA includes about 150,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and other pieces of art. There is also a large program of special exhibitions, and it’s not unusual to have a half a dozen or more exhibitions running at once. Coming up in 2008 are Georges Seurat’s drawings, an architecture special, Lucian Freud’s etchings and collections of Dali and Van Gogh works, among others.
Group visits to MOMA
MOMA is closed on Tuesdays. The rest of the week it’s from 10 am to 5.30 pm on other days, except for Fridays when the museum is open until 8 pm. Adults in groups of ten or more receive a discounted entry price of $16, down from $20. You can also organize a private group tour outside of the regular opening hours for between $50 and $60 per person. For more information visit the museum’s website at www.moma.org/.
