Santa Monica is a part of Los Angeles, but it’s distinctly different from the rest of the city. The real heart of Santa Monica lies in the sense of community amongst the people who live there. This creates not only a great place to live, but also a great place for visitors because of the number of community events which are put on that invite visitors to mingle with residents.
For example, throughout the summer, a free concert series is held at Santa Monica Pier. The Santa Monica Pier is traditionally a tourist area and you’ll find a lot to do there. You can fish in the Pacific Ocean, enjoy arcades and a few carnival rides, go shopping at the nearby Third Street Promenade, and support local artisans, musicians and street performers. But you can also go here to enjoy community events such as those free concerts.
The other great event that you won’t want to miss in Santa Monica is the Farmer’s Market. People come from the surrounding L.A. areas to support the local farmers who sell their food at this event. It happens on Wednesdays and Sundays as well as in two different locations on Saturdays. It’s a great place to meet the people of Santa Monica who make this lively urban area seem like a small hometown. And the flowers, produce and food available have to be experienced to be believed.
