When you are thinking of destinations for a weekend getaway, Detroit probably isn’t the first city to come to mind. While Detroit is known best for being the Motor City and Motown, it’s also the hub city for the American auto industry that fighting to survive, it just doesn’t seem like it’s the happiest place on earth. Despite the ongoing struggles of the auto industry, Detroit has lots going on and there are many fun filled physical and cultural activities that you can partake in over the course of a weekend. Since it’s not really considered a prime tourist destination, nicer 4 & 5 star hotels are more accessible for the masses. Take for instance the Royal Park Hotel, which is a 4 star hotel reminiscent of an English manor located 30 minutes north of the city in Rochester. This is a perfect hotel for partaking in activities of generations past, such as fly-fishing in the Paint Creek or you can dress in your spiffiest argyle clothing and perfect your croquet game. Guests also have access to prestigious private golf and hunting clubs. A getaway retreat isn’t complete without spa treatments or shopping (at least for most women) and both can be found within walking distance of the property. If you can’t bear to part with your Internet access, wireless Internet service is complimentary in all rooms. Room rates vary, but most of the time you can find a room for less than $200 per night and packages range in price from $299 per night to $599 per night. For more information on this 4 star property, visit www.royalparkhotel.net and I recommend making reservations through their reservations group at (248) 652-2600.
