Paris is full of beautiful churches and you can stumble into quite a few of them just from random walking through the Paris streets. However, there are three famous Paris churches which really are too beautiful to miss.

Notre Dame Cathedral is arguably Paris’s most famous church, or in fact one of the world’s most famous cathedral. There is good reason for this – not only is it historically significant, and also made famous by Victor Hugo’s novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, it’s also beautiful. There will probably be crowds of people there when you arrive, especially if you plan to climb the tower, but it’s worth the wait.

Sacre Couer in the artistic Montmartre area of Paris is almost equally famous. Its dramatic white domes and location on top of a hill make it particularly photogenic, and touring the inside is fascinating. It’s also a great place to get views over all of Paris.

Sainte Chapelle is a little less famous than Notre Dame or Sacre Couer, but still well on the beaten tourist trail. It’s small and can get crowded, but if you manage to get in without too many tourist hordes it can feel like a very peaceful place, and above all, the stained glass windows are truly magnificent.

It’s a vibrant city full of color and life and sometimes a little craziness – it is certainly never boring. Some of the highlights of Barcelona’s tourist attractions include:

A walk down Las Ramblas, the long pedestrian mall style strip running through the center of the city. It is easy to see street entertainers and there are often market stalls as well, plus there are plenty of restaurants and cafes along it when you need a break.

The architecture of Anton Gaudi: from the incredible (unfinished) cathedral La Sagrada Familia to the Park Guell, looking down over Barcelona, the unmistakably crazy designs of Gaudi are everywhere. Also look out for La Casa Batlo, La Pedrera and Casa Vicens, all buildings designed by Gaudi.

The Olympic stadium and other remnants from the Barcelona Olympics; speaking of sports, you can also visit the home of FC Barcelona or even catch a match if you’re in town at the right time and can find a ticket.

Walk along the beach from Barceloneta or just chill out on the sand or in the surf.

If you’re traveling to Miami Florida the first sightseeing stop you’ll probably want to make is to South Beach where you’ll see the beautiful beach and ocean, some sunbathing beauties and possibly a celebrity or two. But there is much more to see and do in the Miami area. For sightseeing options in Miami other than South Beach use the following as a guide.

Little Havana

Little Havana in Miami is a vibrant and exciting region of town that has drawn many Cuban emigrants who in turn established a community that closely resembles those in Cuba. This neighborhood is packed with interesting boutiques, incredible eateries, many attractions and family fun activities, as well as a unique glimpse at the Cuban lifestyle in Miami Florida.

Jungle Island

Jungle Island was Franz Scherr’s master plan. He wanted to create place where birds could fly free. Using his own money, time and labor he built a nature trail through coral rock, leaving much of the natural environment as it was. Scherr ordered 25 Macaws to add to the handful of birds he already owned and created his Jungle Island. He charged visitors a quarter to view the birds and the environment. It was an instant hit. Today Jungle Island is home to 1,100 tropical birds, 2,000 varieties of plants and flowers and a really incredible trained bird show.

Monkey Jungle

Monkey Jungle is similar to Jungle Island but the focus isn’t on birds, it’s on monkeys. This wildlife preserve was the brain child of Joseph DuMond, an animal behaviorist who released six monkeys into the wilds of Florida in 1933. The original six monkeys thrived and grew and now there is a large group of them at Monkey Jungle. In fact there are nearly 400 primates that run free on the 30 acre preserve and this is one of the only protected habitats for endangered primates in the United States that the public can explore.

Everglades Safari Park

Everglades Safari Park lets you view the everglades from within them on an airboat. The fleet of airboats feature a number of sizes so you can arrange for a private tour or join a group. Each tour comes with an experienced boat captain who is well versed in the local terrain and knows extensive information about the flora and fauna of the region. The guides know the habits of the animals in the everglades and will give you the best opportunity to see these critters in the wild. When you return from your airboat trip in the everglades you can stop and catch the Nature and Wildlife show and you can get a hands on experience with one of the alligators.

Everglades Alligator Farm

If you enjoyed that hands on experience with the alligators at the Everglades Safari Park then The Everglades Alligator Farm should be your next stop. The Alligator Farm is actually a working farm which was established in 1985 when the alligator was threatened by extinction and the state of Florida decided to allow alligator farming in an effort to increase their populations. The farm has about 2,000 alligators today in all stages of development so you can view hatchlings and, if you’re lucky, huge adults in the marshy waters. The farm also has a variety of other local critters including a load of snakes. Spend the day and catch the alligator and snake shows to get a better look at these magnificent prehistoric creatures.

Wings Over Miami Museum

The Wings Over Miami Museum was designed as attribute to veterans and aviators who were instrumental in civilian and military aviation. The collection includes both display planes and information inside the hangar and then additional craft that reside outside the hangar. There is also a Pacific Room with three different exhibits. Because the museum is housed on the Kendall-Tamiami Airport you’ll not only get to examine aviation’s past but see it in its present day operations.

Island Queen Cruises

The Island Queen Cruises in Miami offer sightseeing tours that give you a unique perspective on the city’s popular attractions, a view from the ocean. The tour will take you past beautiful Biscayne Bay, by the Miami skyline, through the Port of Miami, around Fisher Island, past Miami Beach and by Millionaire’s Row (the highlight of the tour). The tour is narrated by an experienced tour guide and features a cash bar with drinks and snacks. It’s a leisurely way to spend an hour and a half exploring the city of Miami by sea.

Coral Gables Venetian Pool

In 1921 George Merrick envisioned a city filled with plazas and fountains, much like in the Mediterranean. The dream was brought to life and eventually became known as Coral Gables and its main attraction was the Venetian Pool. This pool is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is certainly like no other pool in this country. It features vine covered loggias, shady porticos, Spanish fountains, three story observation towers, waterfalls, a lagoon, with coral rock caves and a palm inhabited island. The pool was originally a quarry pit and is still fed by underground artesian wells. The pool is drained nightly and the water is recycled through natural ground filtration and refills by itself overnight.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens was built in 1916 and was home to James Deering. Vizcaya features a main house with ten acres of formal gardens and a historic village (although restorations on the village are not yet complete). After Deering’s death in 1925 it became public grounds and the home was turned into a museum. The home features 34 rooms decorated with 15th through 19th century antiques and artworks. The gardens are designed in both Renaissance Italian and French styles with themed gardens and a central pool. In addition to the restoration of the historic village on the grounds the servant’s quarters are also being restored and will be open to the public in the future, introducing a different side of the life at Vizcaya.

New Zealand might have got a huge boost in tourist numbers of the Lord of the Rings films were made there, but even before that there were plenty of great reasons to visit this country. It’s full of scenic highlights, and you can go from glaciers to mountains to beaches in a day. Some of the best spots include:

The ski fields of Queenstown, or depending on the season, pretty much any other adventurous activity you’re keen on: jet boating, bungee jumping or sky diving are all nearby

The city of Frankfurt may not be the most exciting destination Germany has to offer, but with the large Frankfurt International Airport being such a hub for air traffic in and out of Europe, it is quite likely that you might find yourself in Frankfurt overnight with some time to kill. If you do wind up spending a day or two in Frankfurt, here are a few attractions which might keep you busy:

Check out the European Central Bank, something you’re sure to have seen pictures of before – it’s got the giant Euro symbol out the front, and since Frankfurt is really a financial city, this seems to typify it. You can also visit the Frankfurt Stock Exchange but you need to book ahead to take a tour.

There are several interesting church buildings to see, including the Römer buildings, St Paul’s Church and St Bartholomeus Cathedral; if you make it to the Römer then you will also be close to the famous iron pedestrian bridge, where you can get good views of the city skyline.

Frankfurt is full of museums, so you just have to find one that suits you: the Senckenberg Nature Museum, the Jewish Museum, the Museum of Architecture, the German Film Museum and even the German Leather Museum. There are also dozens of art galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Applied Arts.

Orchard Road, where the shopping is fantastic and you can eat and stay there too.

Sentosa Island, home to a myriad of attractions including the Underwater World aquarium and its offshoot the Dolphin Lagoon.

Singapore Zoo and the later in the day version, the Night Safari – both fantastic collections of animals, and the Night Safari is something a bit different, where you can see the animals which are more active at night.

Little India is where the Indian population of Singapore is centered and there’s great food and shopping too to be found there.

Singapore Botanic Gardens are a great place to stroll and relax if the heat and humidity of the inner city gets too much for you.

Thian Hock Keng Temple is one of many temples you can find dotted around Singapore – it is Taoist and makes for an interesting visit.

The Raffles Hotel where you can try a Singapore Sling cocktail at the very place it was invented.

Naples is one of those romantic cities that everyone should make a point of visiting at some point in their life. Naples is one of the oldest cities in the western world with an unusual blend of old and new. Founded by the ancient Greeks the city quickly became an integral part of the roman republic. Its significance remained as several different civilizations came and went and made their mark on the city. UNESCO has listed Naples as a World Heritage Site.

Naples is so loaded with incredible sights that there are a few that must be explored by every visitor to the city.

Castel dell’Ovo

Castel dell’Ovo or the Egg Castle was the original center of the city back in the 6th century BC. In the first century BC Castellum Lucullanum was constructed on the site and was refortified in the 5th century. Unfortunately this structure and its fortifications were destroyed in the 9th century but the site remained a favorite and a castle was built there in the 12th century by the Normans. This is the structure that remains and is very popular with tourists and for wedding photos. Even though it is called the Egg Castle, it is square in shape, the egg notation comes from a legend that states Virgil put a magic egg in the foundation for support. In addition to the impressive structure, the views from the castle are some of the best around.

L’Accademia de Belle Arti de Napoli

L’Accademia de Belle Arti di Napoli is the school for visual arts in Naples. Established in 1752 the school still functions as a school of higher learning for those interested in visual arts. But it’s the collections portion of the school that is most interesting to tourists. The collection of paintings cover a variety of historical periods showing the progression in artistic styles through the ages. There are also a large number of drawing and watercolors on display created by students and faculty. There is also a sculpture and video section available for viewing. The school gives great insight into the development of art in the region.

Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte

The Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte or National Museum of Capodimonte holds the main collection of Neapolitan painting and decorative art but also houses many other significant works of art and ancient roman sculptures. Originally the museum started as a hunting lodge, or at least that was King Charles VII’s intentions in 1738 but he quickly decided he wanted a grand palace instead and he would house his Farnese art collection inside. Throughout the years the palace grew with the art collection and by 1787 there was even a laboratory to restore aging works of art. Part of this original collection was ransacked during the French occupation but once power was restored King Ferdinand went about returning great works of art to the palace. When the monarchy ended in 1950 the museum became a national treasure. This art museum is a must for everyone as it houses a huge amount of artwork from some of the greatest artists to ever live.

Underground City

One sightseeing trip in Naples is a little beyond the norm, as its underground. Look for a walking tour of the underground city and examine 5,000 year old carved out caves and roman water systems. There is even a cemetery underground for the people that were indigent at the time. The underground caves also served as bomb shelters and escape routes from 1941 to 1943, some even had electric power and by the end thousands of people were discovered living in these ancient water tanks.

Duomo di San Gennaro

The Duomo di San Gennaro of Cathedral of Naples is the main church of the city and is dedicated to San Gennaro or St. Januarius. Within the church is a vial of the saint’s blood which is said to liquefy twice a year when it is brought out, if it does not liquefy then myth has it that something bad will happen to the city. The building was commissioned between 1285 and 1309 and is an incredible example of Gothic architectural style in this era. The cathedral was built on the foundation of two basilicas, parts of which can still be seen and underneath the church excavations have uncovered Greek and roman artifacts. Inside the Duomo are incredible works of iconic art that have been collected through several centuries, it’s a wonderful combination of history, art and religion all rolled together.

Archaeological Areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata

Most people of heard of Pompeii but not everyone realizes that this was not the only city lost to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Both the city of Pompeii and Herculaneum were devastated as well as a number of other villas. Since the discovery of the ruins at Pompeii more and more of the region has been excavated and made available to the public. Although Pompeii is the better known of the cities, Herculaneum is actually better preserved. Remarkably the murals at Villa Oplontis at Torre Annunziata have survived and they depict the lifestyles of those who lived there. It was from the Bay of Naples that Pliny watched the eruption and wrote a detailed account of the devastation across the water. It is the Naples National Archaeological Museum which houses many of these artifacts including the casts of people who perished during the volcano.

Parco Vergiliano

Parco Vergiliano is a public park dedicated to the poet Virgil and claims to be his final resting point. The tunnel in the park is said to have been created by Virgil who was also believed to be a sorcerer. Although it is now believed that the tunnel was actually built by Lucius Cocceus Auctus, a roman engineer. The tunnel was probably a major thoroughfare in its day, connecting the city through the Posillipo hill to the road leading to Rome. This is a wonderful stop for visitors looking to take a break and enjoy a moment of peace and reflection.

There are so many churches that are notable and worth a visit in Naples that I could write an article just on the churches, so I’ve kept most of them out of the above list, but make sure to visit at least one of these marvelous structures during your visit to Naples.

If you’re traveling around the middle of Western Europe, you might well wonder whether it’s worth popping in to two of the smallest countries there: Liechtenstein, nestled in the Alps between Switzerland and Austria, and Luxembourg, squeezed in between Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Both countries are tiny – especially Liechtenstein at just 62 square miles – and not so different from the neighboring countries. Their languages and cultures borrow heavily from the neighbors too, and you may not notice too many big differences. But should you go? Why not?

In Liechtenstein, you can visit several museums, go skiing, or pay a fee to get a stamp in your passport to prove you where there (there aren’t really any border controls left). In Luxembourg, you can stay a few days in Luxembourg City, a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage listed place where some of the business of the European Union takes place, and you can wander through the Moselle Valley or visit small, pretty villages in the country’s north.

Best of all, you can get talking to the locals and ask them what makes their country unique – and that’s when you’ll find out something memorable. In Liechtenstein, for example, you might be lucky enough to meet someone who works making false teeth – because the tiny country of Liechtenstein produces more false teeth than anywhere else in the world. Who would’ve thought?

Romance and politics seem to go hand in hand so why not head to Washington D.C. for a romantic escape with your loved one?

National Mall

The National Mall and Memorial Parks is known for its national monuments and memorials which include the Washington Monument, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. But beyond the historical significance the national mall is incredibly beautiful with a tidal basin, 2,000 American elms, 3,000 Japanese cherry trees, 35 ornamental pools and fountains, 170 flower beds and several museums. It’s the perfect destination for a couple who wants to spend a leisurely day strolling through the beautiful mall, enjoying the history and significance of the area.

Picnic in the Park

A friend of mine who lives in Washington D.C. suggests creating your own picnic at Cowgirl Creamery which has some fabulous products and a wide selection of fresh (and aged) cheeses from around the world. Then taking the picnic over to the mall area and enjoy a relaxing picnic in the park, people watching and soaking up the exciting vibrancy of our country’s capitol.

Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gardens

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gardens was established by Joseph Hirshhorn who was an avid art collector who collected a massive amount of artwork during his lifetime. He bequeathed his modern art collection to the Smithsonian Institution and in 1966 an Act of Congress established the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and the groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1969. Today the museum features the original Hirshhorn collection plus a number of other pieces with more than 12,000 works of art and it’s a wonderful way to spend some time with a loved one looking at beautiful creations.

The Kennedy Center

After President John F. Kennedy’s assassination the National Culture Center was redesignated as a living memorial to Kennedy and eventually grew into the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, better known as the Kennedy Center. Known for bringing some of the best performances and performers in the world to the stage, the Kennedy Center is host to more than 2000 performances annually and nearly 2 million patrons enjoy the Center’s performances. Check the schedule to see who is performing during your visit and if tickets are still available, this can be a big event and exciting part of a romantic evening for two.

Potomac River Lunch Cruise

See the city from a different perspective aboard a Potomac River lunch cruise. The luxury ships give you a feeling of comfort and relaxation as you snuggle into your seats and see the sites while enjoying fresh appetizers, entrees and desserts and a cocktail or two. It’s a much calmer experience for those looking to catch the sites of Washington D.C. than fighting the hoards at the monuments themselves and you can’t beat the luxury of the cruise.

D.C. After Dark

The monuments in Washington D.C. are striking during the daytime but almost eerily beautiful at night. Each one lit to optimally take advantage of its beauty with the velvety black backdrop of the night sky. Take a tour through the city to visit the most popular monuments such as the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and others. The three hour tour includes a number of stops and even more noted sites that you will get to experience from the tour coach. It’s a nice romantic way to wrap up an incredible day.

Fine Dining in Washington D.C.

The dining scene in Washington D.C. has really changed over the last few years. The shift has been towards more fine dining establishments and high end restaurants and the results have been remarkable. Washington D.C. has become a dining destination and some world class chefs have decided to establish signature restaurants in the city. For a couple looking for romance there are a number of restaurants to select from that offer almost every fare you can imagine in a variety of atmospheres, something for every couple.

Day Spa

Not that you have to go to Washington D.C. to enjoy a day spa, but it is a great way to distress after a long day of sightseeing. Look for a spa that has the same perspective that you have and one that offers a complete couple experience so you and your loved one can enjoy the soothing relaxation of a massage together. It’s quite a bonding experience and one you’ll never forget.

Georgetown Park

Georgetown Park is a great area for people who really enjoy shopping with nationally noted stores combined with one of a kind boutiques. There’s a little bit of everything for everyone and a day full of shopping excitement. But as with all good shopping centers today, there is so much more than just shopping at Georgetown Park. Explore the entire region to see what dining and entertainment option really tickles your fancy and then go wild and enjoy your day with your loved one.

The Inn at Little Washington

If you’re looking for the most romantic place to stay during your trip to Washington D.C. then The Inn at Little Washington has to be at the very top of the list. Owned by Chef Patrick O’Connell, it’s pretty clear that the restaurant is spectacular and you’ll walk away knowing that you’ve experienced one of the best meals you’ll ever have. But it’s not all about the food. The Bed and Breakfast is impeccable and is the very high end of romance offering stunning views, luxurious furnishings, a comfortable and idyllic surrounding and all the peace, quite and private time you could ever desire.

Ever wondered where the world’s largest golf course is? In fact it’s only recently opened, and it’s in the middle of Australia – in fact, it’s way out in the middle of the desert, where they certainly have plenty of space. It’s called the Nullarbor Links – Nullarbor is the name of the desert area joining South Australia and Western Australia, and means, significantly, “no trees”.

In fact, this unusual golf course is spread across about 850 miles, with each hole found in a different location. The idea is that you can break up the long drive across the Nullarbor by stopping to play a hole of golf every now and again, and it’s a concept which is proving popular. Running from the city of Kalgoorlie in the west to Ceduna in the east, you buy a score card at either end and then play as you drive – which may take a few days (they recommend about four days, in fact!). Each hole has a green tee-off area and a green at the hole, but in between the holes are mostly pretty rough bush, typical Australian outback style. You need to pay A$50 for the score card and A$5 if you need to hire clubs along the way – and this is likely to be the most interesting game of golf you’ll ever play.

Russia’s second largest city is, at least in my opinion, by far its prettiest. Saint Petersburg doesn’t have quite the hustle and bustle of Moscow, but it’s a majestic city resting on the Neva River and has so many interesting activities to keep you busy, including:

A visit to the Hermitage Museum in the Winter Palace. Even the buildings which house this museum, and the building interiors, are an attraction in themselves; just wait until you try to come to terms with whatever fraction of the three million artworks they have are on display. It’s a mind-blowing place to visit, and you certainly don’t have to be a mad art lover to enjoy it.

Climbing to the top of Saint Isaac’s Cathedral. The climb up some 400 or so steps is worth it, because you’ll get fantastic views over the whole city.

Take a canal boat tour around the city. These leave from various places in the center of Saint Petersburg and usually take you across to see the Peter and Paul Fortress; Saint Petersburg is surprisingly Venice-like, built as it is on several islands, and a canal tour is a great way to see it.

Admire both the outside and inside of the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood. From outside, the colorful domes are like a grown-up, elegant version of Moscow’s crazy Saint Basil’s Cathedral; inside, the Church of the Saviour is covered with elaborate mosaics.

Cayo Largo Del Sur is a small Cuban resort island located in Cuba’s Canarreos Archipelago off of the island’s southern coast. The island, which was once used as a pirate base, has now become popular among tourists looking for untouched beaches, as there are no permanent residents on the island. Scuba diving is especially popular among visitors to Cayo Largo because of the clear waters and the living coral reefs. Cayo Largo remains one of the world’s most enchanting tropical paradises.

Compared to many of the accessible beaches on Anguilla, Little Bay requires a climb or a ferry service to access, but the pristine beach and the clear waters are worth the visit. True to its name, Little Bay is somewhat small, which means that during peak tourist season it becomes crowded so make sure to visit early if you want to experience the beach with minimal distractions.

Martinique offers a tantalizing mix of French culture with the unmistakeable beauty of the Caribbean. The island’s southern coast is covered in white sandy beaches: here, the water is especially great for swimming and snorkelling because of coral reef barriers that keep the water calm. The island’s northern coast offers a completely different experience in the form of black sand beaches and lush tropical forests. Whichever destination you choose, Martinique is a one-of-a-kind Caribbean vacation.

Honduras’ Roatan Island is a great destination for adventure travelers as it has not yet managed to flesh out its accommodations to the extent that many Caribbean resort spots have. Instead of luxury resorts, you will find a community that is striving to improve, but there is still plenty to do and see at Roatan Island. There are plenty of water activities that you can pursue, such as scuba diving and deep sea fishing, but you can also explore the lush tropical scenery.

The geothermal fields and hot springs of Rotorua, which is also a good place to explore the local Maori culture

The city of Auckland, which with over a million people is the biggest city of New Zealand and therefore home to plenty of cultural action

The Franz Josef and Fox glaciers, to be found in the Westland National Park

The fiord of Milford Sound, best appreciated by a scenic flight over the amazing landscape

The capital city of Wellington, which might be relatively small, but still has all those capital city characteristics and plenty of things to do

The Hawkes Bay region where you can visit wineries and get a great local-produce meal

The waters around the Bay of Islands where you can cruise and even have a chance to swim with dolphins

Although Sydney might be Australia’s most recognizable city, Melbourne is a popular destination both for locals and tourists. Famed for being a multicultural city with a high proportion of immigrants, as well as being known for less than perfect weather with “four seasons in one day”, Melbourne is the place to go for dining, shopping and meeting all kinds of people, but there are also some great tourist attractions, including:

Federation Square, the sometimes controversial modern architecture opposite Flinders Street station, where exhibitions or festivals are often held.

The Fitzroy Gardens, close to the city center, where you can stroll through the beautiful National Trust-listed gardens.

Get on top of Melbourne by visiting the 55th floor of the Rialto building and enjoying the view from the Melbourne 360 observation deck.

The Melbourne Aquarium located on the river is full of local and other sea creatures.

The National Gallery of Victoria has ever-changing exhibits of art from all over the globe.

A cruise on the Yarra River to see Melbourne from the water.

A tram trip to the beachside suburb of St Kilda, which could include a vist to Luna Park.

Alternatively, you can take a day trip out of Melbourne to enjoy the Great Ocean Road or to see the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island, too.

Now that Poland’s a part of the European Union and while costs are still a little cheaper there than in the countries further west, it’s a great time to check out this beautiful and historically rich country. It’s easy to fly there via Frankfurt and enough Poles speak English to make it easy to get around. Some highlights for a visit to Poland include:

Discovering the capital, Warsaw, which has an Old Town faithfully recreated and rebuilt after war damage, with great old buildings and interesting museums, plus the royalty factor including the palace; there is also some interesting Soviet era architecture, like the Palace of Culture and Science

Visiting Krakow in the south, a city full of history and beauty. In Krakow, you’ll want to take photos of the market square and the churches, and visit Wawel Castle and take a tour of the nearby underground salt mines.

Depending on the season, hiking or skiing in the Tatra Mountains in the far south of Poland – you can base yourself in the popular winter resort of Zakopane, close to the Slovak border.

Understanding history better by visiting the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps, not far from Krakow – these are by no means a pleasant day out, but most people find them fascinating and very worthwhile.

The photogenic Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognizable buildings of the southern hemisphere, if not the world. Its sail-like shells and its beautiful location on Sydney Harbour make it a key destination for tourists visiting Australia; it has even been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2007. Unfortunately, many tourists just stop for a snapshot outside the building, not knowing how much there is to explore inside.

In fact, the Sydney Opera House includes a number of performance venues, including the concert hall, the opera theater, the drama theater and the playhouse, among others. One of the best ways to enjoy the Opera House is to get a ticket to a performance being held in one of these venues, and you can always get last-minute tickets at the counter just inside the foyer of the building.

If you want to do something during the day, then I highly recommend a tour of the Opera House. The two main tours are the Essential Tour and the Backstage Tour; the first is an hour-long guided tour including at least one of the venues (depending on what’s being set up at the time); the Backstage Tour starts early and includes breakfast in the Green Room, a limit of just eight people per tour and a two-hour exploration of the building.

It’s not hard to imagine why people leave their heart in San Francisco when you look at how many incredible spas are in the city, you could easily melt away and fall in love with the town. The following spas are popular and well rated spas in San Francisco that are worthy of your love.

77 Maiden Lane Salon & Spa

77 Maiden Lane Salon & Spa is a wonderful little spa that has been in business for more than 20 years and has designed a complete menu for both men and women. Some of their massage treatments include foot reflexology, hot stone massage, loofah salt glow, moor mud body treatments, in addition to standard massage, and packages that can include hand, leg and foot treatments. Ask for special customization packages or deals for multiple visits.

Kabuki Springs & Spa

Kabuki Springs & Spa is what it sounds like, it’s a Japanese style bathing facility with an extensive list of services including some exotic treatments in pan-Asian style. Taking their lead from ancient Japanese traditions, the public baths of Japan were designed to encourage harmony and relaxation as is the communal bath at Kabuki. Of course Kabuki Springs & Spa is located in the Japantown section of San Francisco.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Half Moon Bay

Typically a hotel spa is like a hotel restaurant, high on price and low on quality, but the Ritz-Carlton Spa, Half Moon Bay is one exception to that generalization. The hotel sits atop a bluff with views of the coast and this spa resort offers you some of the best, most relaxing views around. The spa is designed to take the serenity of that view and transfer it to you with their relaxation, rejuvenation and renewal services.

Recharge Medical and Day Spa

Recharge Medical and Day Spa is a boutique spa that provides state of the art cosmetic medical services in addition to luxurious spa services. This is the place to go if you want a total redo; mind, body and soul. In addition to getting a truly full menu of services and cosmetic services spa guests at Recharge Medical and Day spa receive Asian tea, spring water, a shoulder rub with facials, hand or foot services, and medical procedure consults, all at no charge.

Remede Spa

Laboratoire Remede brings science, nature and the senses together to give you anti-aging treatments for your skin that refresh and renew while you relax. One of the key elements to the success of Remede Spa is that they understand that no two people have the same skin or complexion and they’ve designed their treatments around this concept, giving you a personalized skincare system. But don’t be mislead, Remede Spa does not only provide facial treatments, they have a unique set of body remedies as well.

Kamalaspa

Kamalaspa has created a reputation of upscale spa services that has garnered quite a following. In fact they’ve become so popular that after just three years they closed their doors to expand and offer more cutting edge services in addition to their noted use of the healing art of Ayurveda. One of the more popular additions is the inclusion of luxury couples rooms that feature incredible views of Union Square.

Spa Radiance

Spa Radiance has earned a reputation for its excellence in skin care led by owners Angelina Umansky and Galina Rovner. Their specialized treatments have drawn A-list clients from all over and have made them one of the top spas in San Francisco. At Spa Radiance you can choose from their full menu of spa treatments, schedule a few medical treatments, experience acupuncture, or create your own package to take advantage of the best treatments for you.

Spa Claremont

Tucked inside the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa is a spa that is deserving of attention. Spa Claremont doesn’t just hit the basics but creates an atmosphere of relaxation with everything from a simply facial to a yoga class or acupuncture. And prior to your treatment you can enjoy the steam room, Jacuzzi or lounge. If you’re visiting the San Francisco area you might want to check in to the Claremont and never leave.

Spa Vitale

Not to be outdone by the other hotel spas, Hotel Vitale developed Spa Vitale and gave it prime real estate atop the hotel in the penthouse. The location gives it some of the most incredible city and water views around with a stunning view of the Bay Bridge. The spa is small so services are intimate and private. Try the unique bathing ritual after your massage treatment to complete the relaxation experience.

Tru

Tru is a modern approach to spa therapy, rather than giving their guests a complete day of indulgence, they cater to your busy lifestyle with quick pampering treatments that fit into your schedule. Treatments get to the heart of the matter and address your issues in an efficient and effective way without wasting your time in fancy lounges with cups of overpriced tea. The services menu is very complete and also includes a list of treatments designed for men and couples, if you can find the time to get away together.

Chakra Salon Spa

Chakra Salon Spa is San Francisco’s largest Aveda concept salon and spa. This expansive urban oasis uses pure botanical ingredients and customized treatments to give you the results that Aveda is known for. If you have some time constraints and want to work a treatment in between your work day or heavy sightseeing schedule then look into their quick 30 minute treatments. The quick treatments are a perfect way to unwind after a flight to San Francisco, schedule your spa visit immediately after you arrive and start your journey off on the right foot.

Believe it or not, these are just a handful of spas in the San Francisco area. There are several more spas that offer facilities that are just as incredible and relaxing, treatments that are targeted to your specific needs and desires so look around until you find just what you’re looking for because you’re almost guaranteed to find it in one of the spas in San Francisco.

Looking to escape the winter blahs by running off to a tropical location with your sweetheart? Cancun is an excellent retreat to escape to if you’re looking for fun in the sun with a whole lot of romance thrown in. Cancun is one of those places that not only thrives on the tourism industry but caters to it in ways that will make your stay incredible and may relight that spark. Cancun is divided into two zones, the Hotel Zone and the rest of the city. Most tourists will actually find everything they want and need within the Hotel Zone, although the prices may be a bit higher in this area you’ll find that it’s safer, there is high quality products, and some of the best dining around.

Ruinas Del Rey

Ruinas Del Rey lies within the Hotel Zone of Cancun. These ruins were discovered in the 16th century but then largely ignored until 1842 when it was rediscovered but excavations were not begun until 1954. The structure is believed to date back to 200 BC and perhaps served as a place to examine celestial bodies, although it may have also served as a burial spot as well. This is one of the smaller Mayan ruins in and around Cancun and is overlooked by many but is actually a perfect stop for couples. The frescoes inside are striking in their clarity and the beautiful ruins recall the romance of the past.

Sunset Cruise

What is more romantic than a sunset? Why not turn this daily event into a momentous occasion that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Cruise aboard a catamaran to Riviera Maya and its powder soft beaches where you can sip cocktails, listen to the island sounds of a local band and enjoy the last light of this romantic day from the beach. The venture to a secluded beach for a gourmet five course lobster or steak dinner at your private table on the beach. Dine to the soothing sounds of a live saxophonist. You’ll receive amazing service in your private retreat. Wind down the night with dancing on the beach and live entertainment.

For those who are a bit more adventurous, extend your magical day by adding snorkeling, horseback riding, or an ATV & Speedboat adventure to the day. For those who love to live life to the fullest, adding these adventures to the day can be more romantic than the candlelit dinner. This is bound to be a day you and your loved one will treasure and look back on for the rest of your life.

La Isla Mujeres

La Isla Mujeres is a tiny island oasis that is free of the massively crowded beaches and makes relaxing with your sweetheart more secluded and personal. But La Isla Mujeres is not just a beach island, it’s got some incredible eateries with wonderful island cuisine, local shops for basic needs and souvenirs of your romantic vacation, and a top notch spa. But beyond the relaxing vacation you can add some heart pounding thrills. At La Isla Mujeres you can learn to scuba dive, go snorkeling, sign up for a fishing expedition, or really get your pulse racing and swim with sharks. This little island is truly a romantic paradise removed from the crowded mainland.

Dolphin Discovery

Open your heart to more than your significant other on your vacation and you’ll be happy that you did. At Dolphin Discovery you join playful dolphins and lumbering manatees in the water for an experience that you’ll never forget. The tour starts with an educational lesson that will give you a deeper insight into their world before you actually enter their world. While in the water with these magnificent creatures you’ll have a trained professional guide you through several activities that are designed to teach you more about these critters but also to give you an intimate hands on experience. And to cap off the experience you will receive a kiss from both a dolphin and a manatee. It’s perhaps not what most people would consider a romantic destination but it will warm your heart like no other experience in Cancun.

Xcaret Cancun Eco Park

How about a natural water park for romance? At Xcaret you can experience an entirely different world of fun in the sun. Originally purchased as private land for a home, the owner began excavation and discovered ancient Mayan cenotes or sinkholes formed by cave ceilings that collapsed after about three million years of erosion. It was such an awe inspiring site that he decided this area should be shared by many and not just a privileged few. As a guest to Xcaret you have a load of aquatic activities to enjoy from a sharks tour, snuba, snoring, paradise river, dolphin experiences, a sea trek. Or you can spend an entire day at the beach, the lagoon, exploring underground rivers, or bathing in natural pools. Most of the excitement and beauty at Xcaret is below the water, but you don’t need to be an expert scuba diver to experience the joy, there are experiences for every level and in fact even non swimmers get a chance to see what lies beneath. Beyond the natural beauty, Xcaret has taken great lengths to not only respect but to restore some of the Mayan culture of the land. Check to see what celebration is happening during your visit and make a point to enjoy the festival at hand. Spent time exploring archaeological sites and sculptures and spend a moment of quite reflection together in the chapel. On the surface a water park may not seem romantic, but Xcaret steeped in history and beauty is a pretty romantic destination.

Cancun is becoming a happening hotspot for destination weddings and honeymoons. The city caters to every sort of couple, from completely sedentary beach bums to high energy x-game enthusiasts. And the most romantic part of a Cancun vacation is spending time doing something you love with the person you love.

It’s getting to be that time of year again when the snow birds flock to Arizona to get in a few rounds of golf during the winter months. Arizona is one of those hot spots (forgive the pun) where golf is king in the winter and people come from all over to play the fabulous links. The center of the golf world in Arizona is definitely its capital city, Phoenix. There are dozens of golf courses in and around the Phoenix area and below are just a handful of the more popular ones.

Arizona Biltmore Country Club

The Arizona Biltmore Country Club features 36 holes and what are considered two of Phoenix’s premier golf resorts; the Adobe and the Links. The courses were built back in 1928 but were lovingly restored in 2004. Both courses are nestled in a lush setting with trickling ponds that almost make you forget you’re in a desert. The Adobe features wide fairways and cross bunkers while the Links is known for its rolling fairways, the desert ravines and the multiple lakes. If you need a little chip and putt practice before you play the championship 18 hole putting course will give you all the challenging practice you need.

Arizona Grand Golf Course

The Arizona Grand Golf Course has been a popular destination to visitors and locals for more than two decades. Rather than hiding the desert behind carefully manicured greens and tees, Arizona Grand Golf Course uses the desert to its advantage. This traditional link course winds through Arizona’s South Mountain Park, a protected natural desert preserve. The views are spectacular and the course is very challenging, especially to those unexperienced in desert golf.

Cave Creek Golf Course

Cave Creek Golf Course is the area’s most popular municipal golf course and estimates that approximately 100,000 rounds are played each year. Cave Creek is a trailblazer in the field of environmental golf course design as it was a landfill back in the early 1980s. The reclamation project turned that landfill into an incredible 18 hole course that is loved by everyone who has played it.

Club West Golf Club

Club West Golf Club is located on South Mountain and is surrounded by the Sonoran desert. This course has repeatedly been ranked as one of the top 20 courses in the state. Each hole is designed with the utmost of care and stands on its own as an architectural wonder, to further set each hole apart is the fact that most of the fairways are not contiguous. The one thing that will really stick out in your memory are the dramatic elevation changes on many of the holes.

Encanto Golf Course

The Encanto Golf Course is the third oldest golf course in Arizona having been established in 1935. The course is not for the professional golfer, it’s more suited to an intermediate golfer with its wide fairways and few hazards. The course is perfect for the golfer looking for a good score and not much of a challenge or someone just wanting to get in a quick practice round.

Foothills Golf Club

The Foothills Golf Club is a prime desert golf course with meticulously groomed holes parked adjacent to the unforgiving desert. The course stretches almost 7000 yards and features beautiful blue lakes and a rough 65 bunkers. The four sets of tees are an attempt to make the course accessible to all but any way you slice it (again, no pun intended) this is one challenging golf course.

Maryvale Municipal Golf Course

Maryvale Municipal Golf Course was designed by William F. Bell, noted golf architect of the Torrey Pines. This course is another one that isn’t for the professional golfer but perfect for someone looking to improve their game. This 18 hole municipal course is medium length but well within regulations. As a side note, if you book your tee times online you may be able to get a reduced rate for your round.

Palo Verde Golf Course

Palo Verde Golf Course in Phoenix is a little nine hole executive course with a part of 30. This course is great for beginners and youths but is very popular and making reservations days in advance is recommended. But don’t assume that the course will be full if you’re looking to pick up a quick round, it’s always worth a shot (ok, that pun was intended).

Papago Golf Course

Papago Golf Course has recently been renovated (2008) and is an excellent city golf course, given more care than many others in the area. Located at the base of the Papago Buttes this gem of a public course is another creation of the golf architect William F. Bell and got its start back in 1963. The course has hosted some important local championships and once boasted hosting more than 100,000 rounds a year. The renovations were well deserved and the course is completely refreshed.

Phantom Horse Golf Club

Phantom Horse Golf Club is located in one of the most popular resorts in Phoenix, the Pointe South Mountain Resort. Phantom Horse Golf Club is another course that recently underwent a renovation but still maintains its unique ability to give players a taste of a traditional golf course and a taste of a desert course. The front nine almost lull you into your comfort zone with the traditional manicured grass, although the twists and turns on the fairways will keep you on your toes. By the time you make the turn the back nine with have you second guessing every shot on this desert course with its unique challenges.

Phoenix Country Club

Established in 1899, the Phoenix Country Club has become a staple of Phoenix area golf and has hosted many noted golfers throughout the ages. It’s been ranked in the top 100 most prestigious private clubs in America and was also selected as a Platinum Club of America. The redesigned course pays homage to the past while upgrading and refreshing the course for the future. This is a private course and visitors will have to join to play or find a member to invite you as their guest.

Paris is known as the city of love and it’s often a romantic destination for lovers looking to take their relationship to a new level or to rekindle an old flame. But once you arrive in Paris where do you go to actually experience the romance?

Eiffel Tower

The iconic Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognizable structures in the world and considered one of the most romantic. There are three levels for tourists to visit with the first two featuring restaurants that are perfect for a couple looking for a romantic escape with a view. In the winter months the first desk is turned into an ice rink which is also an incredibly romantic way to spend some time with your loved one. If you’re thinking of popping the big question you won’t be alone. Scads of people have proposed at the Eiffel Tower including Tom Cruise and Rod Stewart. One thing to keep in mind, if you’re planning on proposing on the Eiffel Tower’s observation deck, your bags may be searched so you might want to hide that ring accordingly.

Les Deux Magots

Les Deux Magots is one of the most famous cafes in all of Paris and has seen famous guests such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Pablo Picasso and Hemingway. It was considered a place where the literary, intellectual and artistic elite hung out to discuss life and watch people stroll by. Although the café has become a tourist’s destination since that time and the atmosphere isn’t quite the same, it’s still a good place to people watch and grab a snack with your loved one.

Ile Saint-Louis

Ile Saint-Louis is in the heart of Paris. This small island on the Seine retains its 18th century look and is a charmingly quaint trip back in time. Spend the day exploring the little village and its stores and restaurants and imagining what life must have been like back in the day.

Place des Vosges

The Place des Vosges in Paris is considered the most beautiful square in the city. The architecture is elegant and classic French and the fountains are original and feature the name of King Louis XIII who reigned at the time. This is actually an incredible place to stay and the beautiful Hotel Pavillon de la Reine or the Hotel des Chevaliers are right in the area. The area also houses the Gallery Vivendi where you’ll find some of the works of most famous artists of all time on exhibit.

Place de Furstenberg

The Place de Furstenberg is a great little shopping area with a variety of quaint stores. You’ll also find the Musee Delacroix where the artist lived and worked from 1857 to 1863 when he died. The museum holds temporary exhibits of Delacroix’s work which change frequently and the old apartment features some of his watercolors and self portraits. It’s a wonderful way to touch the past with the person you’ll spend your future with.

Jardin du Luxembourg

The Jardin du Luxembourg is about 55 acres and was originally designed in 1612 but not opened to the public until the 19th century. There are a couple water features in the Jardin du Luxembourg that are quite popular with couples. The Grand Bassin pond features small boats that children can rent and paddle around, perfect for the couple planning their future family. The Fontaine de Medicis and the Fontaine de l’Observatoire are the two fountains which garner a lot of attention as both are incredibly beautiful and serene works of art.

Jardins des Tuileries

The Jardins des Tuileries is a central garden between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde. The garden was first established in the early 16th century but it has undergone a number of transitions since then. It was one of the first parks to be open to the public and instantly became a popular place to hang out. This large park is the perfect place to share an impromptu picnic with your loved one.

Jardins du Palais Royal

Enclosed by Palais Royal the Jardins du Palais Royal is not your traditional garden, it’s more like a city center with a long standing history to enhance its romance and a number of store, restaurants and galleries, perfect for soaking up the Parisian lifestyle and for getting a feel for the historic significance of this location. There are several treed areas with fountains and statues that invite the admiring glance and benches which encourage deeper contemplation. The center fountain is a rather iconic site and serves the perfect backdrop for a photo memory.

Pont des Arts

The Pont des Arts is also known as the Passerelle des Arts and is a bridge across the Seine River. This beautiful foot bridge was built between 1802 and 1804 and was the first metal bridge in Paris. The architect envisioned the bridge as a suspended garden although this may be hard to discern the bridge is beautiful and a wonderful place for couples to stroll across the Seine together.

Fontaine de Medicis

The renaissance fountain has carvings that tell the story of the abduction of Leda by Jupiter, dressed as a Swan. This romantic tale is enhanced by the history of the fountain and that in more recent times it was the location of Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre’s first rendezvous. It’s long been a favorite destination for lovers taking a stroll together. The fountain is located on the north end of Luxembourg Palace and can be hard to find if you don’t keep your eyes open.

Parc des Butte Chaumont

Paris has a number of parks but Parc des Butte Chaumont is known as one of the most romantic parks in the city. The park is located on a rocky hill and provides incredible panoramic views of the city and Sacre Coeur. Originally this park didn’t have such a romantic feel, it was a gallows hill where public executions occurred, then it was a lime quarry and a public waste ground. It was Napoleon III who decided that a park would be the best use of this land
